The Reserve at Amarillo is a community designed exclusively for older adults dealing with the challenges of Alzheimer’s and other types of memory loss and dementia. Built in 2018, this senior living facility features a warm, welcoming atmosphere, tastefully designed interiors and a wealth of amenities. Residents can get their nails and hair done at Le Salon, soak up some rays in the sunroom, make meals with family in the resident kitchen, or watch movies in one of four TV rooms.
The dedicated staff here designs an event schedule every month that nurtures mind, body and spirit, with activities like group crosswords, crafting classes, ice cream socials, fitness exercises and live performances from visiting artists. The Amarillo area also offers a variety of exciting attractions for residents and families, including the Amarillo Botanical Gardens, Cadillac Ranch and the Amarillo Museum of Art. Top-notch medical care is also available nearby at the Cardiology Center of Amarillo, Baptist St. Anthony Hospital and the Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center.
The executive chef’s restaurant-style menu has become a highlight for residents at The Reserve at Amarillo, with everything from mouth-watering burgers and flavorful pasta to fresh fruit plates and delectable sweets. Meals (especially on holidays) are a time for visiting family and friends to share in the celebration.
The Reserve at Amarillo: Compassionate Memory Care
The Reserve at Amarillo’s approach to memory care is to give seniors the tools to be independent but offer a wide range of support services for when they need it. The Medical Director works with residents and their families to develop care plans that consider the individual, while Certified Dementia Practitioners help create a secure, comfortable and stimulating environment that fights cognitive decline. In addition, each senior enjoys regular visits with the on-staff registered nurse, who does health check-ups, arranges medication with the Medication Techs and adjusts care as needed.
Older adults and their families can choose from private studios, shared bathroom suites and two-bedroom companion suites, all of which include housekeeping, walk-in showers, three meals a day and arranged transportation.

The Reserve at Amarillo has a Montessori program, which I found very helpful for Mom. Two days after she moved in, they had a Roaring Twenties Prom and everybody had a good time. It's been an amazing change for her. She is in the memory care unit. Her room there has just been repainted so it'sl fresh and clean. It's a corner room, so it has windows on two sides. The staff would just be on their way to help us get things set up and ready for her to move in. We were on a very short time frame, so they helped with that. They serve three meals a day and two snacks. The activities director, Casey, is phenomenal. They have different stations for them to sit down and work on. For those that are wandering, that's a big help. It gives them a reason to sit down and quit wandering. They have multiple TVs in two different rooms and that's helpful, too. So that there's more than one thing they have to watch, but what I like is that it's not an adjusted price scale by how many days or in a month. Every month is the same price so that makes it much easier.

The Reserve at Amarillo definitely had good security, and it was very clean and very well laid out. They had very nice rooms with private bathrooms. The staff who gave me the tour was a young gentleman and he was very thorough, showed me around everything, and answered all my questions. They had a very nice courtyard area with gardening, which was something I was interested in for my father-in-law. They had a lot of activity rooms where some residents were doing something. They had a TV room, and a lot of other rooms with a lot of things to do.

I did a tour of The Reserve at Amarillo, and I really liked that it was all inclusive. The price was very good, a little bit under $5,000, and that was all inclusive. My husband is advanced in his stages, but they said that they could take care of him, so that was good. They subscribe to the Montessori program, and they keep their residents engaged. All the residents looked happy. There was just a really good feel, and it's a beautiful place. It's roomy and cheerful. The rooms are gorgeous. You can bring your own furniture, and it has a lot of room. There's room for a small desk, the recliner, a double or even a queen-sized bed. All of the rooms have an outside view. They've got a nice window, so I was impressed with that. The activity director's just wonderful, she's been there a good while, and she was a little ball of fire. The food is good, and it looked really good. They didn't have a gym or a pool because it is Alzheimer's. They have a large courtyard area where they could get out on a pretty day and stroll with wide pathways, so they could use walkers, or even if they're wheelchair bound. It just had all the other normal amenities that you would find. They have structured programs that they encourage the people to come and watch, and exercises where they do different activities with a ball and balloons depending on what they need. If they need, they do lower body and upper body exercise so that the residents stay active. I've seen their menu and it's extensive. It's got two entrees and several sides they can choose from. They have a full breakfast, and a wonderful lunch. In the evening, they also include a dessert, and they have a full meal and all that. It's very nice.
Read moreThis place is terrible. Don't put anyone you love in here. Poor care for clients, always understaffed, poor house keeping, I could show you pictures of the filth in this place. The poor ladies working there are overwhelmed. The staffing numbers are not enough to care for the clients.

My mom moved into The Reserve at Amarillo and has made more progress since then. It's a great place. I'm very happy that I chose them. Everybody is just so kind to the residents. They actually care and it shows. They're working with her and she's getting back to being herself. They have activities in the morning and in the afternoon that keeps them busy. They feed them well and they have good food. They're allowed to roam freely (unless the door is locked) and go anywhere they want. I've been going every day, and I have not found anything to complain about. It's clean, decorated nicely, and it's very homey.
