A beautiful community with pristine grounds is nice to look at, but it can keep you from making a clear-eyed assessment of the quality of care offered, which is the most important factor to consider. Make sure to look beyond expensive carpeting, trees in the courtyard, or flower arrangements in the dining room. Those things can add value to the community, but they''re not everything.

I like The Cottages on Wesleyan. The only thing I don't like about it is it's located in a busy section of town. If it's the right time of day, you would have a hard time getting in and out of your place of living. It was very nice and well-kept. If they would put a red light down the street from them instead of a four-way stop, it might help the traffic situation. Everybody was wonderful to me and I met some of the senior citizens that live there and enjoyed my time there. The staff was very nice. They serve meals there. If you wanted to eat, you could. It is just nicely kept and there were people busy helping, taking care of things that need to be done for people and that's what I need. It would be nice to be able to call for help when I needed it. They took me to two different apartments and showed me around. They were willing to open back up and show my children if they wanted to come and see. The rooms were nice and nice sized.

The Cottages on Wesleyan was my favorite in terms of the people because of the community feel, and more people seem to know each other. I just felt like it was homier and it felt like a tight- knit community. The facility is beautiful, a little old but still nice. The 1-bedroom had a sunroom with an ensuite half bath. They had food service where you could have food delivered, which I thought was nice.

I had some friends who were at The Cottages on Wesleyan and it was a very nice and well-appointed place. They're big enough for independent living. They have individual carports and driveways. They keep the grounds very neat. If they want to, they can take meals at the assisted living or they cook their own meals or take meals at the assisted living so they have an option of food choices (their own or prepared). The place was very well kept. My friend's room had a little dining area, kitchen area, a little sun porch area, a little living room, and two bedrooms. Based on my interaction with the staff, they were very good. They have van trips to go to doctors or to go shopping and they even take them for their prescriptions. They have activities for their residents, like games, and occasionally, have people come in and play music.

We were disappointed in the care The Cottages on Weselyn provided our Mom. We thought after interviewing them and Mom being assessed and accepted by them, that it was the right place for Mom. But it turned out they are not truly prepared to assist memory care. Their website claims “constantly monitor residents wellbeing”. But Mom was ignored. I spoke with Joy regarding Mom being introduced to fellow residents and activities. She replied “we can do that”. Really? Shouldn’t that be a priority when a new resident moves in? Especially when you are aware and accepted a resident with memory care issues. In the short time Mom was there, other incidents told us Mom wasn’t getting the assistance she needed. And they had the audacity to say we should hire sitters to monitor Mom. So in reality they only provide basic assisted living not true memory care as they advertise.
