Small-Town Charm at TerraBella Hillsborough
Tierra Bella Hillsborough, a senior living community outside Durham, NC, blends individualized care, resort-style amenities and a wealth of lifestyle programming. It’s all in service of one thing: giving older adults the support and dignity they need to live heart-engaged lives. A big part of that is the Celebrations activities and events program, which fills each day with opportunities for fitness, mental stimulation and social connection. Residents have the option to do morning sing-alongs, take painting classes, watch live entertainment from visiting artists and catch classic flicks with friends on movie nights. They also enjoy the amenities here, like the community garden, the private courtyard, the beauty salon and the scenic walking paths.
Tierra Bella Hillsborough is also ideally located in a peaceful pocket between Durham and Greensboro, giving it the comfort of a small-town feel but placing it near incredible attractions. There are nature escapes to the Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area, art appreciation at Skylight Gallery and fascinating Southern history at Orange County Historical Museum. Downtown Hillsborough and its historic district serve as the backdrop for art shows, musical concerts, and annual events like the Hillsborough Hog Day BBQ Festival and the Handmade Parade in October.

We had to move my mother resident since mid 2020. This facility is now a home of never ending lies and empty promises of improvement. Glorious change is forever on the horizon This facility was purchased by Discovery and changed into Terrabella Hillsborough in 11/21. Most of the good employees left. There are a few wonderful folks working there, but management has been offsetting their efficacy with short staffing. -The food is on par with Juvenile detention. -Meal delivery was held until the dining room was finished serving, effectivly punishing "room eaters" with cold meals. The ExecDir is more interested in the paint job and landscaping than the quality of food served to residents. She never accepted invitations to break bread with the residents. -Medications are frequently given late.. often after 10am -Weekends are short staffed. -Call button response was often over an hour. -Terrabella Hillsborough subcontracted with LifeSource for 3rd party Psychiatric support. A LPN put my mother on medication without our POA permission or consulting with her Dr's. This person prescribed Trazodone as a 'sleep aid'. This medication is counter indicated for her heart condition and medication.

I toured TerraBella Hillsborough. It's a very attractive facility, and it was small enough that it could be managed successfully to meet the needs, the requirements, and the comfort of the residents. I'm very impressed with the friendly and courteous tour guide, which was Kelly. She is very knowledgeable. It's a place where my partner would end up going to, and I would recommend it to anyone else. It's very nice and clean. The rooms were very satisfactory. They're empty rooms. You pay your entrance fee and then your monthly fee. And the fact that you put your own furniture there makes the person who has to be there feel more like the comforts of home because they've got their own personal, familiar items, like their own bed and their own chairs and all that stuff. It's very nice. They were also playing bingo when I was there. I met the front desk lady, the receptionist, and the tour guide. I also saw the nurses down the halls. The residents were in the dining room, and they were playing games. It looked very, very inviting.

I like TerraBella Hillsborough because it was smaller than the other place, and it was not so spread out. I went to the memory care unit. They had an outdoor space, and it wasn't that large. It needed some tidying up, but they were in the process of remodeling inside and working on the outside. They had a kitchen and a refrigerator, where they could store food and reheat it for them. They had a separate area for residents that had to be fed. They could group them together and assist them all at one time. They also had a little activity room that they were going to redo. The person during the tour was very animated and very excited about what was going on there. She had a degree and really wanted to work with these residents to keep their cognitive function and activity level up as much as possible. I was really impressed with that. The lady was really energetic in a very positive way with what they were trying to accomplish with the residents. The only thing that rang a bell with me is that when patients reach a certain stage (which is where my mother is now), I don't want her got up at 7:00 in the morning. I want her to be able to sleep in. She's 88 years old. She's getting into the end stages of dementia, and I don't want her pushed to do activities. I would have discussed that in detail with them before placing my mother.

I toured TerraBella Hillsborough for my mom. They are kind of small. I talked to residents as that's one of the things that I do. The residents wanted more things to do. They were bored. The building was nice enough. The rooms were smaller than in the other community I saw. They were adequate, but they were very reminiscent of hospital rooms in size. They showed me an activity room. It looked like an art room with a big table and crafts and things. It was very small and there was nobody in there. I talked to the residents for quite a while before I walked in. Several ladies were in rocking chairs, and they said the food was okay. It was hit or miss, some days better than others, which is what I expected. You can't please everybody all the time. They did say point blank that they didn't have enough activities. The staff were nice to me. I didn't have an appointment. That's very, very close to my house and I was essentially stopping by for brochures and maybe to make an appointment, but they gave me a quick tour anyway, so they were nice.

We liked TerraBella Hillsborough a lot better than the other facility. We also got to tour their dining room. The residents in memory care seemed happier, and the facility was not as aged. We observed them performing activities. It just seemed a little cleaner and a little bit more well-kept and the rooms seemed slightly bigger. They were adequately spaced for a memory care resident. They had a salon. We didn't get to see it at the time, but they did have that. The entrance was very nice coming in, so for family members, it's more appealing to the eye when you come to visit the place. The staff was very friendly and very knowledgeable.
