I like the services that Sunrise of Stamford offer. I like some of the rooms. They've done a little updating. They're very receptive to special menu requests and things. I found them to be very receptive and very open. It wasn't the nicest place. My sister went to a few nicer places and she didn't like Sunrise at Stamford, but that's the only one I've been to, and I found it fine. It wasn't great, but it was fine. I like the house cleaning, the laundry, and all that is included. You can either pay for them to administer medications or they can monitor medication. It kind of hits the point that I was more concerned about.

There's something very lovely about Sunrise of Stamford, but I did not like a number of things about it, so that was crossed off the list almost immediately. The building itself was pretty. They have a lovely patio that's very large, with benches and tables, and it's very inviting. I like that. They have dog houses in the backyard because people are invited to bring their pets. I actually met one of the pets, so that was kind of fun. The rooms were very nice. They have a lot of things going on, but it was very strange. Of all the places that I visited, it was the quietest. You didn't hear anyone laughing. You didn't hear anyone talking, and all that time I saw only two of the residents, one was a woman who was chasing her little dog down the hallway, the other one was an elderly woman who was going to a class. Other than that, I saw none of the residents, and I found it strange. The grounds were very lovely. As soon as I got there, the receptionist was almost rude to me. Automatically, they lost points for that, and the fact that the place was so quiet and it was almost like there was no one living there except for the two residents that I saw. Most of the facilities that I visited, one of the nurses or the head nurse came out and talked to me about my surgery, what my needs would be after the surgery, what was the level of care I was expecting, what could they provide for me, what did I need, did I need a walker, did I need some kind of little gizmo to pull my socks up, asking me all kinds of questions regarding postsurgical care. At Sunrise of Stamford, I was introduced to the nurses and they just sort of waved at me. They were sitting at a desk. It's not like they were performing open heart surgery or anything. They just kind of waved at me. They couldn't care less, and I thought, this is not the place for me. In every other place that I went to, I met the head of activities, and at Sunrise of Stamford, I did not. The only staff members that I met were the two nurses that were sitting at their desks, and that was it. The staff who gave me the tour was very pleasant. She's a nice woman, very knowledgeable, and had answers to all of my questions. When I compare the tour I got there to the tour I got at other communities, there's a huge difference.

Sunrise of Stamford was kind of set off in the country, but it was still in Stamford. They had sitting areas that were amongst the trees and there were lawns. I had always driven by it because it's only a mile from my house, but it's set back. It's kind of like you're living in the country. The staff was good. Unfortunately, I only saw three of them, plus I went on a Saturday. I guess Saturdays are kind of slow there. If I had the choice, I would have gone with Sunrise because it seems at least in the summertime, you could get out and get the sun on your face or walk around. The rooms were nice. The great thing about it was there was a thermostat in each room. You could adjust either the heat or the air-conditioning to suit your own room as opposed to just having the whole floor heated to one temperature. That would be pretty neat. For someone cold all the time, you can have it up to 75. If they like air-conditioning, they could have it set at 68. You had your own bath, and they had kitchenettes there. They had a studio, a one-bedroom, and a two-bedroom. You had plenty of closet space. You got free cable TV in your room. All you have to do is get the converter. It was very well appointed. Originally, I was supposed to be there before lunch, but with the COVID restrictions, they revised my visit to 1:00, so lunch was all done by then. The dining area was clean. There are plenty of tables for people to sit down. They had a library, a sitting room for TV, an area to play games, and another place that had couches where residents could have people come to visit them and instead of being squeezed into your room, you could sit down and have a conversation. They had a backyard that was all fenced in and it had trees and stuff. It wasn't like you were limited. For people that had houses, that would be a place to stay because you got that living in a house feel. The facility looked pretty good to me. I went there in the winter, so there were no leaves on the ground or anything. Everything was pretty clean. They had a nice parking lot when you pulled in. It looked pretty nice. If they would have offered the Medicaid rooms once you're done spending your life savings, that would have been a place to go.

My mother has resided at Sunrise of Stamford for 6 years. The work and dedication by the nurses, the hospitality staff, and the dining staff is always first class. The staff is friendly, always available to the residents and their families, and attends to their business with wide smiles and pleasant greetings for all. I have observed staff members engaged in many projects involving art, music, crafts, singing, dancing, and enjoying nightly feature films right along with the residents. Sunrise families have the opportunity to share stories with one another in order to immerse ourselves in the activities and lives of our loved ones at Sunrise of Stamford. Our family is delighted with the life our mother leads.
