Sunrise of Severna Park: Freedom to Live Your Way
Sunrise of Severna Park recently won the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Silver National Quality Award. Step inside, and it’s not hard to see why. Seniors enjoy resort-style amenities, wonderfully enriching activities and support services that help them live worry-free lives. Residents here spend their days doing what they love — practicing their short games on the putting green, tending to their veggies in the community garden, using the exercise stations along the walking paths and dining al fresco in the courtyard.
Meals are a time for socializing and enjoying the good life. Chef Christopher Countiss uses fresh vegetables from the garden to create homestyle favorites, exotic treats and resident recipes. Chef Countiss trained with Master Chef Joachim Buchner at the Bethesda Chevy Chase Country Club.
Excursions are also a big part of the lifestyle at Sunrise of Severna Park. Residents do things like go shopping at Arundel Mills, stroll around Downs Park and visit the Annapolis Maritime Museum.

My Mother-in-law recently passed away and had been a resident of the Severna Park (MD) Sunrise facility for many years. She was originally living in the Independent Living Facility a couple of years after her husband died and loved it, as she got older and her health care needs increased, we moved her to the Assisted Living side. The care, compassion and concern exhibited by the entire staff was nothing short of phenomenal; she was there for a long time and truly considered it "home". So much so in fact, that when she was recently hospitalized for the last time --- all she wanted to do was "go home". The entire staff, starting with the director Ilona and her management staff to include Cherise, Patty, and so many others all the way down to the cooking, cleaning and custodial staff were simply incredible. Our family could not have been more comfortable knowing that she was in exceptional hands. They truly treated her like family and made her feel like part of their family. We even had staff attend her funeral Mass, that''s how personal the care is at Sunrise. If you ever have a loved one that needs to move to an Independent or Assisted Care Facility, we HIGHLY recommended the Severna Park Sunrise.

Facility is very nice and clean. Overall care and management of residents is good. My family and myself are satisfied with the care. Lax on occasion when emptying resident''s trash or laundering personal clothing items.

Sunrise of Severna Park was a very nice and friendly place. It looked very open. They had a lot of long-term employees, and they had a lot of activities. The only downside was that in assisted living, they only had efficient studio apartments available and we were looking for a 1-bedroom apartment. It would have been fine if the accommodations were better. The staff was very friendly and outgoing, and they seem to care for their residents. They had a gym and an activity area, but they needed to update their furniture. It is located near restaurants.

The Sunrise of Severna Park was very clean and it seemed quiet. It has a very serene, quiet, and peaceful atmosphere. I toured their independent living and the person who assisted me was so helpful. She showed us a couple of facilities. She showed me a 1-bedroom apartment and an efficiency apartment. She showed us around the grounds and told us about their plumbing facilities, and their activities. She's very, very helpful. During the tour, she said the residents had gone somewhere near the Naval Yard and I did see the bus they had used. Actually, on another day, I saw the bus dropping off some of the residents so that they could go shopping. The dining area was clean. We saw one person there eating. She told us about the meals, how there was a continental breakfast type of thing and a regular dinner. Lunch was either on your own or you can purchase the lunch from them too.
