Mom moved to Sunrise of Frederick after Dad died. I think she felt comfortable there and it was a good fit. I think that staff were caring. Mom was wheelchair-bound, and providing transportation to doctor appointments was a valued benefit. Brad provided fabulous transportation and logistical care for Mom. Activities were inconsistent. Mom complained that she went to activities and was the only one there. Shortly before Mom died, I took a bunch of roses from AARP to distribute at a planned Valentines day event, and waited for about 45 minutes after the advertised event, and nothing happened. Residents gathered and waited for an event that never seemed to occur. Many staff members are foreign-born and Mom had a hard time understanding their accents. Communications concerning Mom''s care, transportation, and finances were spotty. Sometimes I would send an email providing or asking for information and had to repeat communications to get a response. Ultimately, I was able to get the information I needed. I just wish that it didn''t take so much effort on my part. There were also lack of clear information about vaccinations provided at Sunrise of Frederick. Overall, I liked this facility and thought it was a good fit for Mom. I wish that they valued family too.

We went to Sunrise of Frederick. However, my mom has been in home care for over four years and eight months, and she's running out of money. So with Sunrise, once she gets down to where she needs Medicaid, she would have to go somewhere else, and I didn't want to do that to her. It seemed very nice though. Their food was okay. They gave us a meal, and it was okay. The person who gave me the tour was very friendly though. The food was pretty good. We only had one meal. It was hamburgers and French fries and they were okay. When we went there, they had us eat in this little room that was like the 1950s, so that was neat, and I like that, too. It seemed very nice. They're very friendly people. We went up onto the floor and they were all saying hi and were very friendly. The people seemed happy. It was homier than the other place, but I just didn't like that you couldn't go from self-pay to Medicaid there. We only saw one room. It was rather small. One thing I didn't like is that you have to bring your own hospital bed. The staff said, 'We have one hospital bed here.' They showed us one room and it was very small. But how would they do that because she's going to be in a hospital bed, and it doesn't seem big enough? I didn't go into activities that too much since I know my mom can't participate, but I know they had music.

We were very happy with Sunrise of Frederick and Mom was happy there, too. The place was very nice, located on a nice piece of property with lots of lovely trees around it and places to walk. They had activities and the people seemed to be very caring. We liked it very much. They need to pay more attention to serving fresh meals. They serve a lot of hotdogs and I think they should serve something healthier. They take their residents out sometimes for dinner or pizza or ice cream, and country rides. They have exercise classes, church services, bingo, puzzles, and painting.

Sunrise of Frederick was very good. They offer services from basic senior care living (assisted living) up to memory care. We got to see all three floors and everything they offered. The staff seemed very attentive and very caring for everybody who was in the building. They showed us various options for rooms and they range from studios, all the way to a companion suite. There were a couple of different options and we liked the flexibility of it. The facility was very nice, very updated, and clean.

I was able to tour Sunrise of Frederick. You have to go through the assisted living to get to the memory care elevator. The assisted living was fine. It had a nice dining room, and they appeared fine. But I did not like the memory care unit at all. Residents were sitting in the hall. It's not their fault, it's the residents, their behavior, and how they were sitting. I did not like their dining room, too. They had a gardening club, a bingo club, and a book club, and they have music where they play songs for them.

We grew to love the staff like they were family. They were so good to mom and really were very attentive. Mom wasn't an easy person so this was not an easy job. During moms last days the staff was incredible to mom and us. It is an older community and not as bright and shiny like some but that's not what's most important. The food seems good to mom - but I think sometimes older people just like to complain. I remember mom saying when she lived on her own - if I just had someone to plan and cook meals I would be fine - but then when she had that she would find something to complain about. But nothing was wrong with the food there at all. It is a bit pricey but I think they all are. [Name Removed] and I visited quite a few other places - we hardly saw any care staff. And were told by some there was no set ratio of staff per person. At Sunrise they had plenty of staff except for the occasional Covid break outs and even then they had ample staff. In the last month of moms life she often had 2-3 caregivers checking on her all the time. Cafeteria and maintenance and office staff would come in to see what they could do for mom or us. The nursing staff was incredible.
