Sunrise at Mill Basin provides a complete continuum of care, from assisted living to memory care and hospice coordination. They boast a tenured team of compassionate caregivers (including one who won Sunrise’s national “Joy in Service” award) with one goal: to help seniors live life to the fullest. They’re there around the clock for housekeeping, laundry, maintenance and assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, grooming and mobility. Seniors who need memory care benefit from the Reminiscence neighborhood, a separate community with secure outdoor spaces, easy-to-navigate common areas and dedicated Life Enrichment Managers. These highly trained professionals use the Validation Method (and other Alzheimer’s Association-approved techniques) to promote cognition, reduce anxiety and provide stimulation.

Disappointing Experience with Phone Service at Sunrise Assisted Living I recently called Sunrise to follow up on a caregiver position I applied for, and my experience with their phone service left much to be desired. Marci, the individual who answered the phone, was unhelpful and exhibited a rude attitude throughout our interaction. When I inquired about speaking to HR regarding my application, Marci abruptly informed me that I would have to wait until they reached out to me, without any further assistance or explanation. It’s disheartening to encounter such unprofessionalism, especially when seeking employment opportunities. While I understand that transferring calls or dealing with HR inquiries may not be Marci’s primary responsibility, her dismissive attitude and lack of empathy reflect poorly on Sunrise. It’s crucial for frontline staff like Marci to handle inquiries with courtesy and professionalism, as they are often the first point of contact for potential employees or clients. This experience has left me with a negative impression of Sunrise’s customer service standards. It’s evident that there is a need for improvement in communication and employee training to ensure that all interactions, whether in person or over the phone, are handled with care and respect. I hope that Sunrise addresses these issues to provide a better experience for future applicants and customers.

I would like to share my story of how this facility has refused my relative over three times in a given year. There are no words to describe how I have been in the health care profession for 36 years and administration in large medical hospitals in Manhattan and have seen what I have seen in the selection process at this sunrise at Mill basin. There is an administrator here named Alexa who has no medical expertise or knowledge and is allowed to say whether a person can be admitted there or not with medical records that are documented so clearly by professional physicians. She has also again the third time refused my uncle. He has been a medical miracle to the family and the medical profession that we are so excited and trying to get him into assisted. Living here has caused nothing but sadness to my uncle and the family. Being a resident of Bergen Beach for more than 20 years, I am well known in the community and I can no longer feel that this facility should have people of good value in nature be admitted there. This administrator had no business to not even say to the family why she was refusing. My uncle did not see my uncle did not speak to me as his power of attorney. Nothing. She refused him three times with his clean medical record and nothing there to differ. She refused him who would put her in this position that has no medical knowledge and no professional courtesy to others. This is an inhumane factor that has happened and I hope no one out there will ever have to experience what I and my uncle and my family have gone through when there are other facilities in Nassau county. More expensive in Brooklyn that have accepted my uncle. This place refuses to take him so I''m writing there so the public can see and read what I have gone through and an unjust feeling that this is caused in my heart. Thank you and I hope that people will read what I wrote and listen to what I have stated here

Sunrise at Mill Basin was very nice, but very expensive. The rooms were fabulous. First of all, they had their own suites and that was the cheapest one. The suites had their bedroom, bathroom, and a shared space. Then you can have your own where it was like an apartment with one room or two rooms. It was very nice and very clean. They have a lot of stuff going on. They go shopping, play bowling, do arts and crafts, and do a lot of stuff. The staff was pretty nice and decent. They just need more diversity.

I'm going to move my mother to Sunrise at Mill Basin's assisted living. It's lovely, it looks like a resort or a hotel and it's nicely kept. It's very pretty and the room was very nice. They have companion rooms where you share a kitchen, and they have studio apartments where you have your own little kitchenette. Everyone was very friendly, especially the tour guide. And everyone was very welcoming, the staff was very friendly, and it seemed it was a very good atmosphere. They have a nice dining area with tablecloths and China, and the menu looks great. We didn't eat the food but everything looked good and there were a lot of choices. They have yoga, chair exercise, and they were setting out for a Saturday matinee movie. And then we also saw a set up for them to play Family Feud, there were a lot of activities, they do a painting class. We didn't see that, but they were. You could see the schedule. There were a lot of activities.

Sunrise at Mill Basin was a very lovely place. All in all, everything was clean and well-kept. The menu, the activities during the day, and their activities were sort of similar to the other senior living places, but I just liked the fact it was on the bay where you could sit outside and walk a little. The surroundings were just pretty. The director was very engaging. We sat and talked, and she explained everything and answered all our questions. It was very thorough. Overall, I liked the place.
