The care my mother is receiving at the Sierra View Skilled Nursing Facility is so good it brings tears to eyes. The entire staff - medical, social work, administrative, support, dining, dietary - everyone! - has been warm, kind, competent, responsive, proactive, and just plain helpful. Even when things have slipped through the cracks, as will inevitably happen when caring for a group of people with complex medical needs, they have been gracious, quick to respond and acknowledge, and take action. The dining room, aka Founders Room, is a hub of activity during the day, full of windows and light, often music, sometimes with Piano Rudy playing for the residents as they dine. A variety of scheduled activities occur daily, both in the Founders Room and elsewhere in the facility, including The Bistro, a large, high-ceiling, many-windowed room where coffee and cookies and soft-serve ice cream is served up. Creative coloring, music and movies, “hand spa” aka full-on manicures, and gingerbread house making are just some of the opportunities for socializing, self-care, and creative engagement I’ve seen offered. But really, beyond responsive, competent care and social connection, the most pervasive and important element we are experiencing here is *kindness.* Real, present, grounded kindness, unforced and unhurried. I am so grateful that my mother has the opportunity to be cared for here. 💗

Vito Genna is extremely rude and judgmental. When I called in to see if they had any long term beds available, he laughed at me and told me that they wouldn''t care for my loved one because of her financial circumstances. Shockingly unprofessional behavior. After laughing at me, his words were, "we have no beds for your mother", meaning they had beds but not for us. Why would he be so nasty to a person calling in for information for no reason? It was completely out of place and uncalled for. I was not in the least bit rude or unkind, I only called in for information. This behavior speaks a lot to the character of this business. If their director acts this way to someone not in a vulnerable population nor in their care, I can''t imagine how they would treat a vulnerable loved one in their care.

I understand the extreme need to protect my Mom and Dad as well as the the rest of your residence at SVH. In fact bringing in Lance to provide compliance For skilled nursing is a must. I own a Business and do not appreciate criticism without recommending a solution to those criticisms. Here are my criticism and recommend fix. 1. Zero communication with relatives, this includes not returning e-mails phone calls, or updated messaging on the website. Rec. have meetings weekly to go over how to treat and communicate with your clients loved ones, Go over with all employees the most recent changes in visiting hours and above all demand that they show kindness and respect to those visiting instead of badgering and dismissive attitudes. Update website with most recent info regarding Covid Protocol visiting hours. 2. Communication between staff in the home appears to clients relatives as non existent. Promises unkept, and blame shifting seems to be the excuse needed for being irresponsible. As you know I have one parent in assisted living and one in skilled nursing Rec this falls on the administration of the Home as a administrator you should have a clear way for each “side” communicate between skilled nursing and assisted living . You are all under the same roof and acting as though you aren’t is a failure to provide your clients and family a much needed service. A simple solution would be a inter office e-mail system connecting all stations in the facility. 3. Limiting visiting hours to weekdays and allowing just 30 minutes of conversation with my mom after taking off work and traveling 5 hr to see her is incredibly cruel. Either this is a mandate from the state and a standard in ALL facilities which I need to respect, or a complete disregard for my parents mental Heath by SVH and again a disregard for family to visit and encourage there loved ones in the winter of there lives. If 30 min visiting hours and weekday visits are only to simplify your way of dealing with staffing You as administrators are missing the mission of this facility. Look up you mission statement! Rec. Shift visiting hours from Tuesday thru Sunday If Lance is your employee or subcontractor mandate that he change his days or find someone else to fill his spot. That simple. Do not allow your staff to decide on what are the best hours based on their needs, but what are the needs of your residence and family members. In other words “ maximize the quality and enjoyment of the lives you serve”. In closing I high recommend you assemble a 5 person committee of family members that can help you with ideas and bounce your recommendations off. This can be done by zoom or Skype so family can be part of this, even if they are far away. I I want to encourage you and above all be a solution to what I believe can make SVH the best it can be.
