We're using Right at Home Sarasota County for my aunt and uncle. They send a nurse once a week to count out their medications and to do a weekly lookover, making sure they're eating well, they're not dehydrated, they're not losing weight, and that the care plan is being followed. Then they have non-nursing staff, just regular caregivers, to care for them 24 hours. They have two shifts a day, 12-hour shifts each one, and they care for both my uncle and my aunt. There's a big difference among staff. Some of them we've had to ask them to replace. Some of them have become beloved virtual family members because of how much they care about my aunt and uncle. When my cousin and I took over the care of my uncle and aunt we called hospice, because we thought my aunt was going to die soon because she had not been receiving any kind of personalized care and had only been eating BOOST liquid, and so she was malnourished. She was anemic. Her electrolytes were bad. Her protein level was low, and she had a wound on her foot that made it impossible for her to walk from bedsores. All of those conditions that I just mentioned have reversed, and she's now able to get out of bed. She's able to stand and walk. She's able to use her fingers to feed herself some kinds of food, not anything that requires a fork or a spoon. She can't handle a fork or a spoon, so she has to have the caregiver sitting right there with her actually feeding her. It's expensive though. It's $35 an hour, so it's about $6,600 a week for 24-hour care.

We used Right At Home for the six months as my father's health began failing until the time he passed away. At first, he needed a little help in the home and ultimately, we transitioned to 24/7 care. Through all of the challenges that allowing my dad to remain in his home brought, Right At Home was there with us. There caregivers were reliable, caring, and treated my dad with great dignity. Their nursing staff kept a close eye on my dad and reached out anytime they had any concern. The office was very responsive to questions we had or when our staffing needs changed - often on short notice. Basically, Right At Home was the organization which allowed my dad to live out his life the way he wanted to - in his home, in dignity and safety. We can't thank them enough.
