The rooms at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville were a little small and they didn't have full kitchens. A lot of them did not have washers and dryers in individual rooms. The facility could have been cleaner, but everything else looked very nice. The little community rooms and their activities were nice. They had some little side trips to local restaurants. The dining room and the menu looked nice. The staff was very helpful and polite, and she did a wonderful job showing us around.

When I toured Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville, I found the person in charge very accommodating. He took me on a tour of the whole place and showed me rooms that were a little less expensive for some reason. I think it was like a budget room or something. He showed me a studio apartment, a regular apartment, their activity room, and showed me the schedule of all the different activities offered. Also, the dining room, the menu, and how they could order. It was a very nice place; I was really impressed. You bring all your own furniture. Their explanation for that is so they would have their own bed. It would be like their own little home or apartment. What they did provide is a refrigerator, a stove, a microwave, and a full kitchen. I believe it had a dishwasher also. They were really nice. They had call buttons in the bathroom, and the call button could be reached at any part in the bathroom. They had a step through shower, which is floor level. So there was no stepping over a tub or anything. It was very nice. It's set up for somebody that needed assisted living. One of the apartments that we looked at, a studio, it would connect to the dining room very easily. There was a small flower bed in between, empty at this time of the year. I thought that should be a little sidewalk. They should fill that place in with cement, a walkway, so that it would be really easy to get into the dining room and the activity room from there. There were a couple of apartments like that. If they just extended the sidewalk, put in a little cement pad, which wouldn't take much to do, that would make that so much more accessible, especially when you're talking about people with walkers or wheelchairs. The person who gave me the tour just called me a little bit ago to see how my sister's doing, and I told him we're at a standstill right now at this point. He was really helpful about telling me about the VA application and giving me a number to call if we needed help. So, he's been great. I didn't try any meals, but I know that I could go there and do that at any time. In fact, he mentioned that, and he said that there was a small charge, but he also had coupons he would be willing to give us, if any of us wanted to do that. Everything looks very clean, very well-maintained, and freshly painted. It was very nice.

I was not impressed with Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It wasn't as clean as the other facilities that we saw. It looks like they comingled the memory care with assisted living. Truthfully, it was a little depressing seeing that. We came at their lunchtime, so some people were in there eating. They have one gentleman there that was maybe slow but he kept following us around and talking. We were touring and we were asking questions and they just never stopped him from doing that. The rooms were fine. We were interested in finding a place with a full kitchen and they didn't offer that.
Read moreWe went to look at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. It was nice. It was more of a hotel setting. We went by one of the rooms where there was an exercise room, and everyone was doing exercises. They have an activity schedule and a hair salon there. They had courtyards and a little patio area.
This community was not very clean and it did not have the feeling that we were looking for. It was old looking. Also for the cost and what was being offered it was not worth it to me.

There are a couple of people I knew over at Prestige Assisted Living at Oroville. My mother was in Prestige, and my uncle was in Prestige. They have their own memory care wing, and they also have just the regular wing for the other people. They have companion rooms with two people to a room, which was very helpful because they could interact with each other, and I know my uncle -- even though he doesn't remember us or anything like that -- he likes to talk. The staff was very professional in their manner. They knew a lot about their facility. They offered me to come back and eat if I wanted.
