Myrtle Beach Manor was under a lot of construction. When you first walked in, it was not welcoming. It was not open and it was like a maze in that place. I appreciated the fact that they had all the steps. When I walked in, it felt more like a nursing home. The apartments, even for just the assisted living portion, the space was very small. They had a small under-the-counter refrigerator and a little sink, but no microwave. And that space was literally in the hallway, a little tiny hallway going from the living room to the bedroom. So, it was very, very small. The facility was very loud and very closed-in. Nothing open about it. It just reminded me of a nursing home. With that kind of money, I would want something more. The staff who gave me the tour was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable and friendly.

My grandmother was forced to stay here when grand strand hospital wouldn’t recommend her to go anywhere else for rehab. To say this place was disappointing would be an understatement. The actual facilities are extremely outdated and it didn’t appear that they prioritize cleanliness or hygiene. The front doors to get in the building are automatic and didn’t even work so you had to pry them open to get inside. The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful, and couldn’t be bothered to care for the patients. There was zero communication between the staff or with the family. They never knew what was going on with my grandmother and they would have just let her lay in bed every day if we hadn’t been there. It’s a rehab facility but that didn’t seem like a priority. She said it would take multiple times pushing the button for help and sometimes no one would come to assist her. They let her lay in soiled clothing and bedding unless we were there to request someone to assist her. The television and telephone in her room didn’t work and they didn’t care to fix either. We weren’t able to call her since the phone didn’t work and one night we called the main line 15 times and never got an answer. The staff was so bothered when we would ask them simple questions and acted like it was a huge inconvenience to care for my grandmother. I would never choose to send my loved one here, we couldn’t get my grandmother out of there fast enough.

I was impressed with Myrtle Beach Manor. I really wouldn't have minded putting my wife down there except for me, it was kind of geographically undesirable because it was 40 miles each way. The only staff I met with was the salesperson. The rooms were very nice, but what I saw were residential kind of rooms and my wife has dementia. She doesn't need an apartment. She just needs a room and a bed, and the ability to go to common places. She is not particularly mobile so that limits her ability to get around. It seemed like there was an opportunity for her to participate in the typical stuff. Unfortunately, my wife is not really into the typical stuff because she never has been a game player, so to speak. Bingo is not exactly where she'd want to go. It was nice and clean and everybody seemed friendly. It was a beautiful building. It was well maintained.
