Morningstar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Santa Fe is a very convenient location within the city of Santa Fe. It's very nice. The amenities, the building, and the facilities were very upscale. The rooms were OK. They're small, but they have a washer and dryer in every room. So, you can do your own laundry. They have people available 24/7 that would respond to any emergency. I only met one person there and she was doing her job to the best of her ability. She was not jumping through hoops to please me. She was very cordial, very informative, and very businesslike.

MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Santa Fe was a newer facility, and they had more room. We talked to Isabel. They had a few more things there that they didn't have at the other place we checked out. They had a theater and restaurant-style kitchens. They had a walking trail around the property. There's a great enclosed courtyard as well where they could walk. They took animals or small pets, and my dad has one, that made it nice, too. He was impressed with that stuff. We looked at two or three different apartments, a two-bedroom, and then a one-bedroom that was nice for a bit of independent living. It has a microwave, big refrigerators, and things. The showers and bathroom facilities were nice. They seem like they would be plenty big enough for them, with enough room for an individual. They impressed us with the stuff they were bringing out to people that were sitting there and waiting on their meals, kind of custom ordered. They also had happy hours at 4:00, I didn't see anything about liquor, but beer and wine, and people were mingling. That was a pretty popular event there, for people to get out, talk, and socialize over a glass of wine or a glass of beer. All day long, they have quick snacks and stuff, like you could get warm food, a grilled cheese sandwich, and other sandwiches. People were going over there and grabbing a few things. They had nice and clean kitchens. I was impressed with the kitchen facilities. Their staff was really good too, they were nice folks.

The tour at MorningStar Assisted Living & Memory Care of Santa Fe was excellent. It was one of our top choices. We talked to Isabelle. She was exemplary. She was the marketing director. The rooms were very light and open. They were configured well. If my mom woke up in the middle of the night, she would know right where the bathroom was. It was nice. They run a schedule. They have activities daily. There is an intermingling between the memory care and assisted living population. All of the things that we were interested in, we would have access to. A number of people in the assisted living facility were in the cafeteria and eating. It was mid-afternoon. So really, it was the cleanliness. It just had a great feel to it. We also met with the receptionist. She was very nice and very accommodating.

We chose MorningStar house because they were the newest, the best looking ,and seemed to have the best care set up and activities provided. They are short staffed and having issues hiring new people. Sometimes you do have to keep on their case about what they are supposed to be doing, so that could definitely be improved. Overall I would recommend to others looking.
