I went to Poet's Walk Fredericksburg today. Michelle is wonderful, we spent about two hours together, and she was great and very, very helpful in getting me the information that I need to make this move forward. It's strictly for memory care. It's a beautiful community, the building itself is well-spaced, they have gathering spaces for all the clients, and they have a well setup system of caretakers for clients. You have a choice of whether you have a dual room, or they have single rooms available also. When I was doing the tour, they were just ending lunch and the caretakers were very, very on top of everyone as far as making sure that everybody had what they needed. There's a deli area where if for some reason a person isn't there for the set lunch hour, they can go ahead and get a meal at all times, 24 hours a day, which is wonderful because, if you're dealing with someone with dementia, the time frames go away. So they don't know if it's 6:00 in the morning or 4: 30 at night. The dining area is beautiful. They have courtyards on all sides of the building so that the patients can go outside and sit out in the sun and commiserate and talk, or just enjoy a beautiful day like today which was not too hot. The rooms themselves are not furnished, but they're very spacious. They all have walk-in showers. And so if they want to take a bath as opposed to taking a shower they have that ability too. That was something I hadn't thought about. The caregivers are responsible for helping you get into the shower, depending upon what your level of need is. If you're at a different level like my mother, it would be that she showers, she would have to have someone with her because she's not that stable on her feet on top of everything else. Across the board, it was a relief to see the way that things were set up, and how people were interacting with each other and then with the staff for the time that I was there.

My mother will be moving into Poet's Walk Fredericksburg. It satisfied the level of care that she needs. They have private rooms. They have community areas, dining rooms, and a courtyard. It's a pretty normal facility, but very clean and very beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpful. They've got a low turnover. Most of the staff has been there a year or more, which is very unusual. They're very responsive.

We went with Poet's walk because of the location, the positive ratings, and it is a dedicated memory care facility. The focus of the entire facility is on memory care. I gave a 4 on meals is because it is a set limited selection versus residents choosing from a menu. Medical decisions and evaluations when ordered with the doctors should all be coordinated with the family/guardian of the resident when decisions are being made. The facility is spacious and large with lots of activities. Most of the rooms that are offered here are private rooms and the hallways are color coded.

If your family has the resources, this is a nice location and a good memory care community. This community is really nice. Poet's Walk allowed my loved one to have their own furniture and items from home to make it feel more like home to my loved one. This allows my loved one some more peace and comfort. The staff were patient with my loved one when getting settled into the community. Anytime I have needed to contact the staff, they have been able to get back to me quickly or answer or address my concerns immediately. I have noticed the staff making the residents feel like they are with family.

I placed my parents, both with Alzheimer’s in 2017. It was clean and I felt like my parents got decent care for a few years. My father died in 2020 during Covid, and when i got back in to my mothers room after Covid restriction were lifted, I was horrified. I found my mother in a twin bed with no sheets, no blankets and clothes I had never seen before. Her clothes were all gone, her towels were gone, her shoes were gone.. and she had other people clothes on. I found dirty diapers on the windowsill, bathroom sink and toilet clogged. It was disgusting, and all this stuff in her room that was not hers and was stuff shoved in a wardrobe. Just the most terrible care, I reported them to the state and the state licensing person was also horrified. I have had employees embarrassed by the care and keeping of my mom and taken me aside to apologize. I am moving my mom in the coming weeks. I just can’t discourage you enough to avoid this dump. The worst!

My wife is now in Poet's Walk Fredericksburg. They do dementia-only patients, the place is vibrant and it's bright. It just doesn't compare to the other places. The staff has been very professional, very friendly and they seem very caring. Their dining area looks immaculate. It appears that every time I went to visit there, they had lots of activities. They have birdwatching, they have a little couple of birds in a cage, they had lots of activities going on, and singing at a church service on Sunday. They have a garden and the residents help plant stuff in the garden, they also have a movie room full of people. The staff just seem so professional and so caring, almost like they were family and simulating the patients into the family. The value for the money is very good.
