I made an appointment to tour Markham House today with my wife on a list of retirement communities I have been looking at for my grandparents. I’ve been to a few so far and I was really impressed with the feeling Markham House gave me as soon as I walked in. From the time I first called to schedule the tour to the very end of it, everyone I met was so attentive and helpful. One of the things that has been most important on my list for my grandparents was a facility that was kept up to date and clean. If they’re going to be living somewhere, I want to know it’s in good condition. That was evident from the moment I walked in to Markham House. I was also really happy to see all of the activities going on and scheduled for the residents, knowing my grandma and grandpa would always find something to enjoy and keep them active. I had a LOT of questions and every single one of them was answered without hesitation. I got a really good feeling overall there and it’s somewhere I know I could have my grandparents live peacefully.

My experience with Markham house was very positive! I am moving my mother up to the Portland area to be near my sister. I called and the receptionist was quite helpful and very pleasant. She put me in contact with someone on the sales team and while at first I was expecting someone pushy-I was pleased with the conversation and subsequent meeting. I never felt pressured and I was extremely happy about the attention to the smallest details. The other staff members I came into contact with were also friendly, knowledgeable and very welcoming! Overall, I feel my mother will thrive at Markham House and we are looking forward to making this her new home!

As an employee of Markham, I have been there for 4 months. I have seen first hand amazing care for the residents and the staff by management. I strive to step up and help wherever a need is being requested. I work with a amazing staff who work very hard at making sure everyone is taken care of. I am not biased because I am an employee, I have watched with keen observations of why people leave and what happens behind closed doors. I see management handle everything with dignity and respect toward everyone. Sometimes it is not what the other party wants to hear and that is what I think is one of the best virtues management can have. They don''t walk on glass and they let you know exactly what is going on and the best course of action to correct it that is a win for everyone. If someone doesn''t agree, that is their decision. I love every minute I am there and I am grateful to have been chosen to be a part of the staff. I am reducing myself from full-time to part-time as my dream of 25 years has just been presented to me and I am not going to let that opportunity pass. Management is so supportive of my decision that they offered me to stay on call as needed as I love the residents and I love working there. Thank you to everyone at Markham House for welcoming me and inviring me to be a part of this amazing community.

Hello, I would like to start out saying how disappointed I am with Markham House! Things were horrible before with Zohreh being the manager prior. Things are just as bad if not worse with Mercy being the current manager! I am able to share this not only from experience but what I’ve seen and what has been brought to my attention while I have been doing family visits during visitation during this pandemic! It is disgustingly sad! Mercy, the current manager has rudely disrespected employees in public areas, she has no manners towards the residents or myself as a family member. So I can only imagine that she’s treating other family members, residents, and staff horribly as well. With that being said, I am so sad to have learned that one of the many reasons for keeping my family member at Markham House was due to the good leadership from what was once great department leaders. I have learned through family members and overhearing conversations outside amongst other residents that the department leads as well as employees from all over the building have quit due to Mercy‘s treatment towards them! This is ridiculous and should not be tolerated from any organization. It has been communicated to other residents that more staff have plans to quit if Mercy still remains in charge! According to what I overheard Mercy has disrupted the regular flow of daily operations by creating nonsense amongst all of the departments to the point that it has resulted into chaos in the entire building which led to individuals quitting including the ones that held supervisor positions. The most upsetting part about this all is that Mercy decided to send out a letter to all of the families and residents stating the updated changes and instead of taking ownership and fessing up that she was the reasoning for people quitting she Lied and tried to cover it up and down play the seriousness of The Whole situation including staffing. Myself amongst a lot of the family members have discussed this letter and we do not agree with it knowing the truth behind Mercy’s lies! If it hadn’t been for her treating the staff inappropriately and disrespectfully and not talking trash behind each and every staff members back, NO STAFFING ISSUES WOULD EXIST! Markham House did a great thing by bringing back the prior nurse... now that nurse is no longer there due to what transpired regarding Mercy! They really dropped the ball on this one and it needs to be addressed immediately! To add, there has been discussion that peoples pay has been taken from them on Mercy’s behalf! Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen if you ask me! For this I no longer want my family member at this building and will be moving my family member out immediately! I will not refer Markham House to any of my family members or friends ever! This is ridiculous and these issues need to be addressed and fixed right away! This will be reported, at that point action will need to take place!

I have found that if you really want to know something about a company, then look at their negative comments. Markham House Assisted Living is by far the worst Senior Living community around Portland! I have never seen an employer that has so many unprofessional relatives work under one roof! It is clear that their own family members get special treatment. And there is not enough attention given to the residents of the community! The leadership/management at this place is a a joke! Very rude, with no people skills. During visitiation with my family member sometime ago wbile covid is still happening, I recall some employees wearing masks and at that time I noticed a lady going in and out of the building smoking a lot. It was very concerning due to the fact that I had a short visitation time and the lady had been out there to smoke at least 3 times. Every time the lady proceeded to go back into the building she was not wearing a mask nor did I see any proper handhygiene. I finally got to the point where I asked someone who that lady was, one of the the young girls came out and said that''s the general manager!! I was completely shocked because as a general manager you would think that you would lead by example and that''s not a very good leader! This explains why the coronavirus cases are rising because people like the general manager choose not to follow the rules! You should be a great leader and lead by example. Totally inappropriate this company needs new leadership ASAP!
