I went to visit the Legend of McKinney. They were very organized. The staff was prepared to show us the different sections. Tori was our tour guide, and she took us through the entire facility. It was very organized, clean, and smelled great. They had stations set up for people to help them remember maybe what they used to be doing. They had a section that looked like a garage wall and had different types of tools that they would be familiar with. They had a workbench and they had activities that they could do there. There were four different workstations. One was childcare where they had baby dolls and you could change clothes and that type of thing. One of the most impressive things was that they had a quiet room. The room was very inviting, with warm lighting, and set like a living room. They take people there when they're agitated, very depressed, sad, or crying and a staff member would stay with them. They had a device that had been developed by artificial intelligence, and it was like a creature that had eyes. They would have the residents look it in the eyes, and it could identify whether they're very depressed, fearful, or had PTSD. And it would make certain sounds, and they said that it had proven that it calmed people down eight times faster than any kind of medication you could give, like when they were having an episode. When we were there, they had a group in the memory center that was singing different hymns. It's a gospel-centered center, and for those that would like to come and worship in the morning, they have a worship service and then they also sing. And there were probably 12 to 15 people just enjoying singing the hymns that they were familiar with from years past. The staff took us through the dining area into one of the bedrooms where they live. They have very roomy bathrooms. It's set up quite well. They have a big closet, so they don't have to fill up their room with dressers and things like that, and that makes it more peaceful to not have a bunch of clutter. She has done follow-up by phone but she's not pushy at all. And then she also came by the house and dropped off a little gift from my husband. He likes to work in the garden, and he likes to paint, so she got this cement gnome from the garden shop that could be painted and put out there. Overall, she covered everything, answered all our questions, and is open to any communication that we want, but she's not hounding us at all. The building is very nice and very spacious with a wide hallway. It has lots of seating areas. They have dining areas where you can have your family come to have meals separately. One could accommodate about eight and one could accommodate about 20 to 25 people, so you could have like a gathering of your family for birthdays that type of thing. It's looking very calm, organized, and peaceful.
