Live Life to the Fullest at Sunrise of West Hills
Sunrise of West Hills, an assisted living facility located in the San Fernando Valley, blends comfortable resort-style living with a wealth of exciting activities and outings. Near the grounds are the Westfield Topanga Shopping Mall, the many fine restaurants of The Valley, the Santa Susana Pass State Historic Park and, of course, the scenic 14,000-acres of the Topanga Canyon. First-class medical facilities are nearby, with Northridge Hospital Medical Center, West Hills Hospital, and Woodland Hills Medical Center all within 10 miles.
The highly trained staff here do a great job of providing care that nurtures the social, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents. Part of that is a comprehensive activities program — seniors can always find something to suit them, whether it’s yoga and meditation or the walking club and trivia socials. Movie nights happen frequently and come complete with popcorn popped in an old-fashioned popper. Guests are always welcome at these activities, and the staff host resident and family meetings regularly.
Seniors are also free to sit on the wraparound porches, relax on the garden patio or have a coffee in the enclosed sunroom. All residents get 24/7 staffing, licensed nurse wellness checks and an emergency alert system in common areas and inside apartments.
Three meals a day are served in the main dining room through the Sunrise Signature Dining program, which uses professional chefs and a wide variety of recipes from old favorites to exotic treats. Open 24 hours a day, the Sunrise of West Hills Bistro also offers a jukebox, coffees, teas, fresh fruit and pastries.
Living Options at Sunrise of West Hills
Assisted living floor plans at Sunrise of West Hills include studios, one-bedrooms, two-room suites and Companion Suites, where residents share a two-bedroom apartment. All of these apartments come with housekeeping, laundry, a personal care plan, maintenance and scheduled transportation.
Memory care is also a specialty here. Seniors with Alzheimer’s, memory loss or other types of dementia live in Reminiscence, a unique neighborhood with exclusive sitting rooms and reflection rooms, where soothing music and tranquil environments create a safe, secure space. Life Enrichment Managers in the Reminiscence Memory Care Program work with families to develop individualized care plans that assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, medication) and provide social, recreational, educational and devotional programs.

I am considering this facility for my Mom. The virtual tour was extremely helpful, allowing me to observe daily life as if I were there in person. I observed residents doing activities together and eating lunch together in the restaurant-style cafe. The atmosphere was friendly and comfortable. The Director, Lucia, has 40 years of experience in this kind of care and it showed. The resident rooms are small but very nicely laid out and and equipped. The facility is tastefully decorated but with a homey feel. There are about 50 residents in the facility, and I got the impression that the staff know them and care about them. This is the kind of place my Mom would be comfortable in for long-term care.

I would not put my grandmother here after speaking with many workers at sunrise They are severely understaffed and treated poorly by management They admit people beyond their care levels and I would worry about their ability to care

My mom is in the memory care. They do have a great activities program overall. It is a beautiful location, great parking for guests. Very elaborate check-in system, must wear a mask, have your vaccination card to check into the memory care facility. The beginning was a little confusing as they have different levels of care options, it was a challenge but once the staffing helped us through those it was a nice smooth process.

They had a room set up for families to FaceTime on a big TV. They were all very nice and welcoming.
