As a former worker: PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE HERE. The Homme Home of Wittenberg is not what it used to be. They are frequently understaffed, workers are paid very little, and they depend on outside agency staff to keep the place open. The rooms over on the CBRF half of the building are small, outdated, and overpriced. Oftentimes call lights ring for 10-15 minutes before help arrives due to this place being understaffed. I should also add that The Homme Home of Wittenberg is in massive financial debt, upwards of $1-2 million dollars (these records are publicly available online by googling Homme Home''s 990 filings for every tax year). Within the year that I worked at this facility, I saw four department managers leave or have their positions terminated due to “lack of funding”. All these managers left due to mismanagement caused by one individual: the current Executive Director. The current Executive Director, in his few years of experience in this position, has caused Homme to go completely downhill. He is responsible for cutting staff hours despite an ongoing staff shortage. Many staff have complained about pay, working conditions, being forced to work double shifts due to being understaffed, and even some complaints about certain management showing up drunk to work on multiple occasions (which I witnessed along with several of my former co-workers), all these complaints were met with no action, even after multiple people came forward with the same complaints. Additionally, as of June 2022 the Homme Home of Wittenberg is no longer a nursing home due to the amount of debt Homme has incurred, meaning that should a resident fall or have a medical emergency, the nearest hospital is in Wausau, 30 miles away. In addition, Homme can no longer provide rehab services to injured residents, meaning that should someone fall, they will have to go to another facility licensed to take rehab patients. Lastly, many of these complaints have been brought to the attention of the Homme Board of Directors, who up to this point have taken no action against the current Executive Director despite mounting debt and poor treatment of Homme’s workforce and residents. This is despite the former Director of Nursing, Activities Director, Housekeeping Manager, and Kitchen Manager coming forward about the shortcomings of Homme, along with several former and current employees. The change from a nursing home to assisted living, along with the mismanagement form the Executive Director and several other managers has damaged Homme’s reputation amongst the community. I’m providing all this information to you because I find it important to inform any and all potential families about the shortcomings of Homme, so you and your family can make an informed decision regarding what is best for your loved one. I know moving a family member into assisted living can be difficult enough as it is, having been a part of that decision in my own family several times, and I hope this information can help you decide what is best for your family member.
