Unsanitary dirty kitchen with filthy staff. Staff also constantly complains about how they hate residents, & ignores resident needs - former employee

We visited the Heritage Woods of DeKalb assisted living and the only problem with it is that it is way out there with nothing around you. The place was out in the middle of nowhere and that scared my mom. It's older than the one that we saw in another city, and I felt like it looked older. The upkeep and cleanliness were fine though. It was clean but the rooms were small. The person that was supposed to assist us did not show up. The person who did assist us was very nice but she was a nurse and so she can't answer our questions about the facility as being on Medicaid and things like that so that didn't help us. The menu looked fine and the dining room was clean. They had a beauty salon and an area where the people could play cards. They also have a bus that would take them to Wal-Mart.

The managers here are rather lazy. Accommodations for residents are very limited, mostly due to the fact that this is put on only the CNAs to withhold. The CNA do not get proper manager support. Therefore, they are limited in staffed and in what they can accomplish during their shifts. They often don’t have proper supplies set up for them or a regular schedule in place.
