Do not believe any positive reviews you may see for memory care at Heritage Monona. My sweet mama passed away there. Unfortunately not before she was subjected to horrendous "care" if that is what it has to be called. Her health was obviously declining, but even when we brought up the possibility of her needing hospice care we were told her condition was "behavioral " more than physical. A complete lie! Her laundry and clothes were constantly lost. The last sight I had of my mother alive was of her laying in her bed with no bedsheets at all. She only had a filthy, feces stained blanket covering her and she was cold! Staff promised her a clean blanket, saying the laundry was backed up but it never came. We paid more for 2 hour checks on her but they did not occur. She may be alive had they checked on her as promised. I frequently found her medication scattered around on the floor. They were supposed to witness her taking her pills but obviously some ended up on the floor and left there. They would deliver her food without proper cutlery. She had no knife to cut a slab of ham to feed herself. Maintenance was extremely slow to fix anything. Her toilet was inoperable for days, even with daily requests to fix it. There was no way to contact staff with a question about my mother. Head nurse never answered her phone or returned messages. Obviously I have a lot of bitter resentment for this facility but that aside, this post is for anybody even considering this wretched place for a loved one. Do not give them the income. The place should be shut down immediately. There are way more terrible things that occurred here to list. My mother was a dignified lady. For her to pass away here is hard to overcome.

I worked there for 4 days 3 days training(which I didn’t get trained at all) the 4th day left alone and I don’t know anything about the unit or the residents. I did leave but I didn’t abandon the unit I had to ask someone from a different unit to take over and I felt bad because then that makes them leave someone alone in another unit. They need to do a better job of knowing who they are hiring and if they are actually passionate about being in the healthcare field. Smh the ghetto !!
Read moreOverall mediocre to sub-par experience. Lovely facilities nice individual rooms a nice selection of activities. Large emphasis on resident independence only very little assistance and very understaffed. High rate of turnover. I would only recommend for someone looking for very, very minimal care.

My father's room was a pig stye the day we moved in. We cleaned it for over 8 hours, and it was never cleaned again. It had a big problem with ants and flies. I had to put my father's clothes out in the hallway to get them washed. He was not bathed until Hospice got on board. The rates went up every 2 months. I had a nurse try to pressure me into having my father move to memory care, saying that my father needed more care, which is more expensive. My father wasn't getting any care. My father didn't want to wear the call button because no one would answer it. He had better luck leaving his door open to and wheel his wheelchair to find someone. My father was sane enough to figure out that wearing the button didn't work, and yet they were pushing for him to be moved to memory care??? The food was ok, but it was rare that there was butter, salt, pepper, sugar, cream, or condiments. Silverware and coffee cups were always short in supply. The office staff always had their heads on the computer screen and had no time to actually talk about my father's care. The aids that cared were overworked, and the aids that didn't care were on Facebook or texting. I visited my dad every day as I knew he was not being cared for.

Also a daily meal was stated on the website but was never given. I do know this was during the latter part of COVID times but...
