Do not send your family member to this facility, now named Manor Care North Sarasota. December 2021. We were told my mother could have a private room, but they only have a couple and they were filled. The rooms are double rooms and VERY small, smaller than dorm rooms, with only room for the beds and nightstands. Two rooms, and four patients share a bathroom, how is this following covid rules? The building is old, and in need of remodeling, even painting with some pleasant pastel colors and artwork would help. The food is poor. I spoke to dietary 3 times, and it was 6 days before my mother got food she could eat, and it always came barely warm. They did not have her on the correct diet. When mother was first there, the aids were not using gait belts nor standing close to her when she walked to the bathroom, and she was still shaky at that point. When she or her roommate rang their call bells, it was often 30-60 minutes to get aides to come and assist them. The RN''s, PT, OT were professional for the most part. Not impressed with the speech therapists. Mother received OT and PT Monday thru Saturday, but not Sunday. Also only had one therapy the next to the last day and no therapy the last day. The head PT also tried to tell us my mother had some dementia which definitely wasn''t true and wanted her to receive cognitive therapy also which wasn''t needed. I recommend that families visit at least 3 rehab facilities before they choose, and speak to some patients about their care before making a choice. There are much better rehab facilities in Sarasota to get quality care, therapy, room and food.

I wish I could take back sending my father to this rehab center. While some reviews showed promise, I should have leaned more towards the negative and looked elsewhere. My dad unfortunately fell and shattered his whole right ankle leading to surgery which then lead to a rehab facility. He was admitted to the rehab facility on December 21st and discharged January 11th. He ended up in ICU on January 12th and is still currently there fighting for his life due to the lack of care received from the facility. Dad has a long list of issues but COVID broke out in the rehab and he got it. While he felt “okay” they did take X-rays and discovered pneumonia. He was in isolation for the regular 10 days and they gave him an inhaler. After the 10 days they NEVER rechecked the pneumonia they just discharged him. From day 1 of being in this rehab he fell not once, not twice, not three times but FOUR times under the care of these people. He was beat up from falling. They had to be told to wash him, clean his sheets from the accidents he would have because no one would bring him a bed pan. He would call the nurses stations and I quote. “You need to stop calling the nurses station we are too busy.” What’s really disheartening is they admitted to telling my mom they were too busy for him. They also never called us to inform of his first fall and called back to say how “sorry” they were. My dad is one of the strongest persons I’ve ever met. It was already hard that he couldn’t walk me down the aisle on my wedding day because he was in this rehab but the fact these “nurses” couldn’t even take care of him hurt my family and I so much. He is now fighting for his life from the pneumonia that he got in the rehab and they never rechecked him before he left knowing he needed an inhaler but wouldn’t give an x-ray. They booted him out after 3 weeks when he was supposed to be in there for 6 but honestly I think if he had stayed any longer it would have made everything worse. I never post Google reviews and I’ve never posted one negatively for a place but this situation can’t happen again. I may loose my dad because of the ignorance and lack of care from these people. Don’t send your loved one here. It isn’t worth it.

Heartland North Sarasota was one the best contract assignments that I have had as a registered nurse. Right away I was welcomed and made to feel as though I was a part of the interdisciplinary team. I was surrounded by knowledgeable supervisors and supporting staff. I felt safe working there because I saw that staff members from all departments participated in making sure the residents were well taken care of. All departments at this facility deserve a round of applause for being Healthcare Heroes!!

My brother was at Heartland post surgery. For the most part we appreciated the care he got at the facility but there were some challenges. When he was discharged, no one took time to explain any of the discharge instructions and they forgot to give me his prescriptions so I had to return and get them later in the day. No one went over his medications with me and there were changes to them since he had been at the facility. I only realized this later after I had a chance to read over the discharge instructions and reviewed his prescriptions. While he was in the facility, I had no communication with the dr caring for him. I only had interactions with the speech therapist who was wonderful in having my brother call me when she was working with him. However, when we got home, we realized he only had socks and underwear in his bags. None of his shorts or shirts were returned. I have reached out twice with no response and even responded to the follow up call asking how he was doing to request someone help me with locating his clothes and no response. This is disappointing because he went to the facility with a week''s worth of clothes and came home with only what he was wearing. I realize that it may not matter to some people, but having to go out and buy him new clothes has been a burden to us. At least someone could take ownership that they were lost, or whatever. Disappointing.

I want to take this opportunity to share my experience with this health care facility. My mother (Patricia Welle) was not able to return home after a hospital stay and it was recommended that she go to rehab - specifically Heartland. I was very apprehensive but felt that I should at least try. These folks are exemplary. There is not one CNA, nurse, aide or kitchen staff that was anything other than extra-ordinary. Sadly my Mom has to be transferred to an ALF and she is really sad about leaving. She has made many friends in the 6 weeks that she has been there and so have I. Wonderful, caring people. I could name them all but instead I''d like to say that if you have a loved one that needs special care, this is the place to go. Thank you all for helping my Mom get through a very difficult time. We will miss all of you.

My father spend 6 weeks at Heartland North in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. The staff at Heartland North was compassionate and very communicative regarding his status and progress. We have found that many social services workers at other hospitals, rehabs and ALF facilities were NOT willing to communicate and it made a challenging situation even more difficult. Dealing with a mentally declining parent while living in another state is hard enough. Then add the pandemic and it’s a nightmare. The team at Heartland North were wonderful to work with and they provided my father with excellent care.
