The managers are good communicators, knowledgeable and easy to talk with. The caregiving staff was pleasant, capable and compassionate. The fees are comparable with other similar agencies. What more could you ask for!?

Mom is 83, raised 4 kids by herself, and was totally independent never having to rely on anyone for anything. Then she had a transmetatarsal amputation of her left foot making her incapable of standing or walking until the stitches healed. Kaiser transferred her to Vasona Creek for wound care and rehabilitation. After a week, they said that Mom’s wound care was not enough for her to stay in their skilled nursing facility and that they would discharge her to an Assisted Living facility or to her home if I hired caregivers for her. They gave me a list of facilities and home care providers. Since they treated my mother horribly, I chose not to use anyone from their list. Instead, I googled Home Care in San Jose and Familiar Surroundings popped up. It was as if God Himself stepped in and gave us Familiar Surroundings as they were not on Vasona’s list. I called and spoke with Michael. We hit it off instantly like we’d known each other our whole lives. Michael went to visit Mom at the rehab and they hit it off as well. Familiar Surroundings is not only about having Mom at home in familiar surroundings, the people themselves are familiar and are more like family than total strangers. Jessica was truly instrumental in scheduling caregivers for Mom on such short notice and we were able to get Mom home that week. Huge heartfelt thanks to Bo who stayed with Mom 24 hours a day for the first 4 days helping Mom adjust to home care with dignity and respect. We love Bo. Additional Shout Outs to all of the other caregivers especially Heather. Mom learned to allow others to care for her and she truly appreciates all that they did for her. Familiar Surroundings is a Godsend. Mahalo Nui Loa.
