Harbor Village Rehab & Nursing Center and it Admissions Officer, Bridgette would be the first place I would go to seek the specialty care and/or direction that they offer for myself, a loved one or a client. During this time of uncertainty (also known as COVID-19) and you have a loved one or client in need of a safe, secured skilled-care facility for a temporary or permanent stay, I would definitely go here first.

My brother in law was here prior to his passing and the staff is amazing. They took great care in his every need and if we had any concerns they were right on it. I started taking our dog Duke when he was 4 months old prior to him becoming a therapy dog and they instantly feel in love with him and also the other residents. They asked if we would keep bringing him, even after my brother -in- law passed and with their help Duke became a registered therapy dog and we have been going ever since. This facilty and their staff are considered my second family. If you want great care and a loving staff and also some heroes this is where you need to be.

My father was here just over six months. We didn''t want to take the nursing home route, but it was our only option that our family could agree on. This nursing home may appear to be "nicer" than others you can find in your local town off of the main road, but it is nowhere near a place you should leave a loved one if you can help it. Our father was neglected and sent to the hospital for neglect twice in a couple of months. The doctor that was "treating" him at this nursing home was the SAME doctor that "treated" him at the hospital (the doctor who neglected his care, woah)! We took him out of the local hospital that was referred by this nursing home and transferred him to U of M Ann Arbor where the care is 100% better. After the doctor and staffed neglected to care for our father at the Villa Green Lake Estates, we refused to allow him to go back to the Villa over in West Bloomfield. Some incidences, most (not all) of the regular care helpers on his floor lied about his feeding and how much they fed him (including the high ranking nurse manager), left his medication sitting out from the midnight shift (any patient or person could have taken it, it was sitting out for anyone to ingest for hours), staff had daily loud speaker phone conversations about at home illegal drug use directly in front of my father and I (with no care in the world that we could hear their "low-life" conversations), whenever I came after lunch hours my dad''s food was never fed to him and they never woke him up to eat, when he refused medicine they NEVER called our family to come and help feed his time sensitive medicine (they constantly skipped doses which was threatening my father''s medical plan), a dead hollowed out mouse that was left outside by the gate to the pathway for over a month, they never opened his curtains so he could get natural light in... There are many other things that I am sure I could add, but please, if you must keep your loved one here you need to visit your loved one as much as you can. Make a plan with your family to be there with them throughout the whole day if possible. Because if you don''t, you won''t be there to notice the neglect that your loved one is facing all day everyday. It wasn''t happening to just my father. I saw many patients on his floor suffer because the staff didn''t want to feed their patients and saw them gossiping in the FAMILY dinning room instead. There were a few nurses/staff who deserve better managers and co-workers who are professional because they went above and beyond but overall, 95% of the staff disgusted us and I regret ever allowing my father to stay there. I will always regret having allowed him to stay there the rest of my life. For all of the people who are forced to leave their loved one at nursing homes, PLEASE VISIT YOUR LOVED ONES AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THEY NEED YOU.
