Garden Square at Westlake was very nice, very well kept, and clean. You went in and it just felt homey. It didn't feel institutional. The rooms that we saw were all very nice and practical. They weren't too small and they weren't overly too large in the other sizes that they have, because I think they have 4 or 5 different size options. There was a nice garden area. The residents seemed very involved and they seemed to be happy there. The staff who gave us the tour was wonderful, very helpful, and answered all of our questions. They were all very nice people. It just seemed like a nice place.

My mother was at Garden Square at Westlake. She had some limited mobility, and she was up on the second floor, so she would have to maneuver with her electric wheelchair to an elevator to go down to dinner and stuff. She would have to wait quite a while for assistance, and so she would try and do it herself. And she had four falls within a month, so that was concerning to us. The other thing is that she was going to get palliative care and they said, 'yes, that would work,' and then out of the blue, they called us and said, 'If she's getting palliative care, we probably think that this isn't the place for her.' So, at the last minute, they kind of pulled the rug out from underneath us. The place appears to be older. Back in August, they started ripping down wallpaper in the hallways, saying that they were going to replace them, but it only got to a certain point of ripping down, and then they never finished. It has the ambiance that it's in the middle of construction, but nothing's been done to it since. However, my mother was very pleased with the activities, and bingo was her favorite. They did crafts, and they did coloring. She was very happy with the activities.

I visited Garden Square at Westlake for my dad and it was good. The staff members were all very friendly. I really did not speak to anybody but the main administrator for very long, but everybody was very friendly. They're doing some remodeling work, but it was very clean and well-kept. It was not brand new, but it was definitely very clean and in good order. They were all single rooms and big enough to function very well. They don't have any double rooms there which is an advantage. The dining room is nice, and it's spacious with the tables nicely spread-out so there is room for maneuvering for wheelchairs and walkers and things like that.
