We liked DeSoto Palms Assisted Living Community. It had everything. The apartments were nice. The people seemed to be very friendly. They have a lot of activities to do and people coming in and entertainment, that kind of thing. They were very thorough and very nice. We're gonna go back and look at it again. It just seemed to be well thought out. They had a salon and it was very nice. The upkeep was excellent. It couldn't be better. It's near the mall, so there are a lot of restaurants and stores.

When I visited DeSoto Palms Assisted Living Community, I did notice there were not very many people around inside. I don't know if it's because of the time that I went over there, it was about 3:30 PM. I did not see more than a couple of people inside, they said it holds 85, but they only had 65 there. It was painted a beautiful peach, with different shades of peach, and white on the outside. It was three stories high, and the inside was immaculate, beautifully painted. When you come in, you see a beautiful fireplace and bookshelves for their library. They have a snack counter where you can get drinks and snacks. It was on three floors rather than just one huge floor, I felt that was better. The patients don't have to walk so far. It's only just the width of the building that's narrow, and the length of the building in front, that's the size of it. It holds 85 people. The colors were just so warm and inviting. Different walls were painted different colors in the apartments. There were pale green, some lime green trim, and peaches. The rooms were big. The apartment I looked at was over 600 square feet. They have a beautiful big bedroom with a big closet, a good-sized living room, and a kitchenette area. Plus, it had two small closets in the hallway and a beautiful bathroom. One thing I noticed that I didn't see in any of the other places, in the bathroom, the shower head is in the middle of the wall where most of them are at one end, and the seat that you sit on is at the other end. This one was in the center, the seat came out from the end, and it was cushioned. It came from the wall and wound around to the front of the shower. It just seemed to me like it would be so much easier for the patient rather than to have the seat at one end and the shower at the other end. So, I thought that was very nice. The living room was big enough for your couch, TV, and computer. You could put a small table and a couple of chairs. They have nice kitchen cupboards. They said it was designed by a group of doctors, the staff said that's who owns it. The staff who assisted me, Cindy, was very nice. She said they had washers and dryers with the main price that you pay. They have housekeeping, plus, they do your towels and bedding, and you do your own laundry unless you can't or don't want to, and that's $50 a month. I went down and looked at the washers and dryers, you don't have to pay to use them. They're part of what you paid for your apartment, and the soap comes with it. The soap is already in a machine. You just push a button, and it's added to the washing machine. So, all you have to do is push the button and drop your clothes in. You have all the room numbers and they have them on every floor, and you pick out your room number off this board, it's magnetic, and you put it on the washer, that tells everyone whose clothes are in that washer. I thought that was a very nice thing. Instead of one big dining room, they have small ones on each floor. So, you don't all have to eat it in a huge room, which makes it nice if some people don't like big crowds. It makes it closer for them rather than having to come downstairs if they're way upstairs. They have doctors that come in and all, and they have nurses that will come in. My brother's a diabetic, so they would come in and give him his shots and check his diabetes every day. Just down around the corner, about half a block from the university, she said, there's a fire department, in case you need an ambulance. I noticed next door there were doctor's offices and an urgent care center. So, everything is very close by. They had a bus, plus they had a van that would take them to doctor appointments and things. They'd take them to the grocery store and different places. It's only about a mile from I-75, and it's right there by all four corners where all the shopping malls are. Everything was very convenient. It was very clean, they had high ceilings and wide aisles. It's very bright and cheery.

I would tell others that it is clean. I'm pleased with the medical attention they have. This is one of the most important thing about the community to me. The staff could be more willing to assist with the residents to assist with eating with those that have trouble setting the food up. I think they may be short staffed due to COVID.
