Desert Rose is a nice facility, in a convenient area of town run by friendly and caring staff. There are plenty of fun activities for residents and a van that can transport them to outings and appointments. It is a good value for the money but it is not an assisted living facility and you'll need to hire help from another agency if personal care is needed. There are some negatives to be overlooked or overcome. The food was often an issue as they do not consistently offer options for people with food intolerances. The common areas are in need of refurbishing (cushions are sunken in on couches and chairs). The van was out of service several times during the year my mother was there. The outside walls and windows need cleaning. There is no staff on duty at night. But, overall, Desert Rose is a nice, clean facility with a lot to offer for people who are fairly independent.

We are on the waiting list at Holiday Desert Rose. We want a 2-bedroom, and there are none available at this time. I have a very dear friend living there also. I'm very familiar with what it's like, including the dining room, the activities, and everything. They did take me on a tour just recently, and everything was real nice. It looked really great. It is very warm and very bright. The rooms were all very light. They have good windows. I liked that it wasn't dark and gloomy. The manager went to the kitchen and brought me back a pie to take home, which was real nice. They have lots of activities, the library, the beauty salon, and exercise programs. They have a minister there on Sundays. On Wednesday evenings he does bible study, which is very nice. They have activities for making things, like decorations for Valentine's Day. The staff was very nice. I saw the residents playing a game in the lobby, and they have a television where they have movies.

I have a couple issues....in the apartment itself, there should have been a better inspection prior to letting my loved one move in... There was no power to the living room air conditioning outlet. The smoke detector was broken, not just a battery change. The bedroom air-conditioning unit was filled with black mildew or mold. It seemed as though there was no maintenance checklist followed prior to her move in. Oh!! One more thing....they need more dining room staff. It takes up to an hour to get food to the table from the kitchen. And there are very few vegetarian options.

I went to Holiday Desert Rose a couple of times, and that was my favorite place. And then I realized when I visited there the second time that they don't have any cooking facilities in the apartment. There's no stove, no range top, no oven, and I did not see a microwave. I loved the facility, it was just great looking. It had a lot of what we wanted, but I can't imagine living without a place to warm up a cup of coffee or have a little bit of soup for supper if I don't want to go down to the dining room. That's not acceptable for me and my husband. I loved the inside of the building. The dining area was in the center of the building. It had a huge sky-lighting space. There was a lovely little balcony that ran along the second floor where the residents could come out of their rooms. My daughter went with me, and we were seated in the dining room with a lady that lives there. And as we were eating, this man with just a beautiful voice, came out on the balcony and started singing. That just made me feel so good. I will say the food was nutritious and looked beautiful on the plate, but the vegetables were kind of wilted and didn't seem fresh.

The staff is fabulous, and everyone from the cleaning staff to the front desk receptionist is absolutely outstanding. The atmosphere is wonderful. The apartments is super nice. They offer activities all the time. They are very responsive about anything or issues that you may have. Everything is great. I would suggets, putting your loved one here. Overall, it is such a wonderful place.
