Under staffed. Poor care, great short term care, very bad long term. Staff is friendly, but they are severely overworked. Frequent management changes. This facility would not survive in other states. Virginia has very little oversight. Dr orders are not followed.

My dad was a resident at this facility for several months and at first received great care but then they began to have staffing changes and that is when everything changed for the worse. My dad has congestive heart failure and began gaining 1,2,3 pounds and more daily which was fluid. I called the nurse and was told they would contact the doctor. I waited two days and he continued to gain weight so I called again and was told the same thing. Two more days passed and he continued to gain weight and I called again and asked the director of nursing to call me. Another two days passed and nothing so I went to the center and was told just to call the nurses station with my concerns. Every time I called I got an answering machine, I left messages and still no return calls. By this time my dads had swollen with fluid to the point he could no longer walk and had to be in a wheelchair. I then went to the website for this center and filed an official complaint. 24 hours later still no response. I then called my dads cardiologist and they wanted to see him immediately. I called the center and was told they needed 5 days to set up transportation. My dads doctors office even called the center but they would not budge. My dad continued to gain several pounds of fluid a day and had severe breathing issues. I met him at his doctor and his transport was a hour late for his appointment. The doctor sent my dad straight to the hospital where he spent the next 7 days and lost almost 20 pounds of fluid. Upon arrival at the hospital my dad had also developed a severe rash on his bottom and had several open leg ulcers which were not treated at the nursing home. When released my dad went to another facility with the Saber group which he has given him excellent care and communicate with me on a very consistent basic. I then went to pick up my dads items from Chatham.. Several of his items and money was missing. I reported to the director only to be given one poor excuse after another. One of the items missing is a hand painted picture our preacher painted for my dad. Guess what its still not been found along with many other items. This facility does have some wonderful people who truly care but in all my dealings with the director I was treated rudely, poorly but most important my dad suffered needlessly because of her lack of communication and follow through. I have text messages, copies of complaints i have filed, doctors notes. I was given every excuse under the sun but these people we put our trust in to care for our loved ones and they let my dad down and he was not the only patient this happened to. If you have someone you love at this facility please I beg you check on them, follow through, do not accept this poor level of care. I also believe it is a serious conflict of interest when the director of this location, Sarah post a review on here about how great the staff is just to try to get ratings up. And other staff on here too that has given this location 5 stars.
