I like Charter Senior Living of Gainesville. It was my second choice for my friend. It was small, home-like, and comfortable. It felt nice and clean. The person who toured me, her name was Lauren, and she did a great job. She was helpful and friendly and explained everything to me. The dining area was very nice. In terms of activities, they had a nice craft room and a library. They were a little bit pricey though. They had levels of care that were more expensive than others. The community move-in fee was expensive, so it would cost more to live there.

My sister has been at Charter Senior Living of Gainesville for two and a half weeks now. She was very happy to move in there. The staff are very welcoming. They try to keep it feeling like family there. They have doctors and a nurse on a regular basis. The meals are good. They have a lot of activities, which is what we needed for my sister. The rooms are nice and adequate in size. No shared rooms. They would arrange to have therapists come in. It's a pleasant place with trees and flowers. It's clean. It's a good place for my sister to be. The price compared to other Gainesville places is good. There's the convenience of having the hospitals and doctors right there in case needed. They will transport my sister as needed to her doctor's appointments. They provide complimentary transportation, and so I like that, and that's why she is there. Right now, they're preparing for a big Halloween party. They've decorated the front of the building, which is the porch area. A lot of residents sit out on that front porch and observe things. Another plus is that pets are allowed. People will take their pets out front just to sit with them. There's also an inside courtyard area for exercising them.
Read moreI have recommended to others. We picked this community, because at the time they were the only ones that offered respite care. There are many folks that enjoy sitting out front but they have trouble getting up from the seating because the cushions are worn out

I think the biggest issue with this community has been the turnover in the health director. I hope the current person stays. They have also had some other staffing changes but that might be everywhere. The new activities haven't interested my brother. But he is a tough customer. He says the food is okay. Sometimes it can be really good and other times just okay.

My father had pretty advanced Alzheimer's and so we were specially looking for a memory care facility that we thought had a higher level of care than others, but it turned out that wasn't the case. Initially my dad needed some assistance with eating and prompted to drink water, but they were not really able to provide this consistently, resulting in him being hospitalized twice with severe dehydration and lost a lot of weight. He also had several falls, many in the middle of the night, so it was just not enough supervision for the state he was in. In retrospect he would have been more cared for in a hospice facility or more a supervised hospital care type center. After the two hospitalizations, my dad passed away only after being in the facility for less than six months. Several other patients passed away within weeks of him, which I'm sure happens, but many were from declining after falls, some covered in bruises , etc. I would recommend the facility if patients do not require assistance with eating/drinking , are able to communicate and somewhat independent without fall risk. This facility had little activity programming.

I went and toured Charter Senior Living of Gainesville. What I liked best is that the people were very, very friendly and very, very welcoming. The area was very clean, and the price was reasonable. They had an exercise room, a dining area, and a courtyard. My friend uses a walker, but the best thing that I like about them is, they do not have carpets down on their floor. They have hardwood floors or tile floors, which is much better. The menu looked good and very reasonable. My friend doesn't necessarily get up early, but they have snacks throughout the day so she could have something when she got up rather than going to the 7:00 to 9:00 breakfast, so that was good.
