I feel Canterbury on the lake is a wonderful place to live I have been here for over a month everyone here is great and i love everyone here. Facility is wonderful. If you are looking for a place to live, this is it!

Canterbury-on-the-Lake should be shut down and closed. The care is sub standard at best and the staff are rude, unprofessional, and inappropriate. They have no respect for the patients and the elderly patients do not get the care and attention they so desperately require. My best friend''s mother recently fell out of bed attempting to use her bathroom. This fall caused her to sustain a fractured hip and wrist. There was not an option to choose zero stars, or I would have give 2 thumbs down. Update... since this review was written, my friends mother passed away. The staff continued to act in a very rude fashion and disregarded the orders of the Hospice Nurse. The Nursing staff are incompetent and lack the knowledge of what " transitioning into death" means. I pity the remaining clients who still reside in Canterbury-on-the-Lake. This establishment is cruel and disgusting.

This place is awful. I am POA for a family member with a diagnosis of failure to thrive. He spent 16 days here and went down hill FAST due to lack of care, compassion or empathy from any of the staff. He came in walking with assistance, using bathroom with minimal assistance and being 100% cognitively there. He ate not one meal the entire time he was here, I had to bring supplement shakes. Even after discussing his food preferences with his social worker, that clearly did nothing. We never once had a conference to discuss anything. I was left completely in the dark, given phone numbers to call different people and they never answered or returned calls. I would have to stalk his nurses and aids when I would go there and ask questions (2-3x per day, since I needed to make sure he had water or didn’t need anything, since staff was too busy to bother), and no one ever knew what was going on. He was started on a very strong drug for appetite stimulation, without even seeing a doctor. I voiced concerns about the drug side effects multiple times. I was told by Amber King, that we could stop the drug at any time. On 12/17, they doubled his dose. Again, without an assessment from a doctor. He went into a delusional state, having hallucinations, and also resulting in a bad fall. All of the black box warnings were happening! Where was the staff at when I told them he was hallucinating? They seemed uninterested. I tried getting ahold of Amber to stop the drug, to no availability. Nurse (Michelle) told me it would be cut back down to the half dose. The side effects were rapidly increasing and no one was doing anything to help- they gave him an attitude when he said he felt sick from the drug and couldn’t attend physical therapy because of how Ill he felt. Then they kicked him out “due to insurance”. I emailed the director, Leigh, with my concerns, and requested the drug be stopped immediately. I received an emailing saying “will follow up” …..with absolutely ZERO follow up. We transferred to an assisted living facility and they are astounded at how he was neglected and treated there. When he arrived on 12/22, he was still on the DOUBLE dose of medication, even though his nurse said they cut it in half, and after I emailed the DIRECTOR, AS POWER OF ATTORNEY, TO DISCONTINUE THIS MED. He left Canterbury, in 1000x worse shape than he came in with. He left in diapers. If you love someone, do not send them here.

When they transferred my Dad from the hospital it was on the weekend and maybe they were short staffed but he was pushed in his room nothing hooked up to call for help no lights were on so he was in the dark and no phone hooked up so I take care of that ordered him something to eat and warm blankets. Most of the staff were friendly and I believe that did the best they could but my issue is with the social worker this young woman’s poor attitude and how she addressed my father upset me and I had to get this off my chest because I don’t want her nasty attitude to prevail. I suggest that if you have loved ones in this facility please go check on them everyday make sure you speak with the dietitian about the things they like to eat and if help is needed to eat. Get to know who is helping your love one daily because it changes work with the staff for a great stay for your loved one. My father has passed away now but I’ll never forget how I found him that day with no means of getting help and in the dark.

I toured here. The tour was very good. The staff was very nice. The facility was very nice. The décor is themed towards about 1800s Victorian Era England. That was the only facility I visited that had a theme, so the decor was very, very nice. The staff members were very pleasant and very intelligent. The other nice thing they had was that they had a store, a hair salon, and a bunch of other amenities that were all inside, so you never had to go outside. They also had this walking path around the building, so residents could walk around and get exercise outside. That was one of the better facilities I visited. Also, they're the only one that I visited that had a chapel, which was a nice amenity. They had services there, and it's Episcopal. Their dining area was standard. The menu was pretty standard.
Read moreIt was clean, and they had a lot of that for the clients. I kind of got a good feeling there when I toured them. I had a tour with the physical therapist that worked there, and she was excellent. The building was all right. It was OK. Everything was good.
