Truthfully, there were only few things I could praise Brookestone for in my dads three months of staying there in skilled nursing. Those of which are: his physical and occupational therapists were incredible and one of his nurses, Stacy, was just absolutely awesome. Otherwise, I was not impressed in virtually any aspect. My dad has aphasia and can rarely and just barely ever make a sentence out. The one full sentence I’ve heard him speak in a very long time was “I don’t like it here.”. I found it so heartbreaking that my dad cannot reciprocate conversations I have with him, but fully communicated his impressions on Brookestone. I could go on, on, on, on, and on, about various incidents my family experienced with Brookestone. Not only minor things but also various recurring things and larger things I had tried to bring attention to but were ignored .. multiple times. This place didn’t have much to offer my dad and I just wish he would’ve been not only more respected but felt more respected during his stay here. He really really deserved more. I could understand under different circumstances peoples satisfaction with this place, but for a man that is vulnerable and cannot move nor speak, subjects him to a lot of unspoken, but very important, emotions in feeling helpless in an apparently respected and reputable facility. Not everyone can read minds, but I find it necessary and decent for a man to be entitled to showers, bottom changes, supervision with food, monitored with his reactions to certain medicines, and I cannot emphasize this one enough: a call light. Specifically, I could only count on one hand how many showers my dad had in three months, he was barely changed and had numerous infections here, he would drop his fork or whole tray of food in his room alone and couldn’t pick it up because he couldn’t move, he had very bad reactions with medicine multiple times and I was told once that “he was just tired.” when he couldn’t even tell me if he remembered my name, and, lastly, he could never call for help if he needed it because no one gave him his call light. A lot of situations arose because of the amount of times the staff failed to give him something so simple yet so necessary like a call light. So, so, very disappointing. My dad lost a lot of pride in many adjustments here but he tried so hard to remain level headed. He never demanded anything but he was always so grateful for everything. He’s such an optimistic guy and to witness him slowly become depressed in this facility is something I can never let go. He is a very kind man and I’m not only writing this to seem as a protective daughter and family member, I’m writing this because it is truthful and important situations we faced during our time involved with this facility. We’ve since transferred to him to another facility and he’s glowing. I’m so happy to see him happy and glad to see him in nurturing hands. I hope that other people can find their happiness here, but it just wasn’t for my dad nor my family. We are not bitter, just disappointed.

Read moreWe are so pleased with the care she has received. I miss the pre-Covid popcorn and fancy dinners. Covid has been terribly hard on her. She''s very social. Lockdowns have made her bitter. She hates all the rules. We understand, but it has taken a real toll.

My mother in law was at Brookstone for about 6 weeks for rehab following a stroke. They took excellent care of her- in fact I believe they saved her life. She aspirated during the night and they immediately called for an ambulance. She was transported to Lakeside where the emergency staff said the quick thinking of the nurse at Brookstone probably saved her life. She became friends with her physical therapists, nurses, aids etc which really helped with her progress. She loved the food (especially the soups) which also helped in her quick recovery. In this time where everything is made more difficult due to COVID, Brookstone went out of their way to keep patients safe and family members informed. My only complaint is that they don’t have assisted living at this location!
