Walnut Valley Senior Living Community was very, very nice and very secure. They had a lot of staff and they seemed very friendly. I saw the memory care and they have activities and stuff. This one seemed a little smaller than the other two facilities that I visited, but it was fine. They only had a certain number of rooms available, but it was nice. Again, the facility wasn't huge. It was kind of a little bit more intimate than the other two, but they had some common areas there. They have a little outside area. Their little kitchenette area was kind of small, too. It was like a little room, but it wasn't bad. It was nice. The cleanliness and upkeep was a 5 rating, but the facilities were a little smaller, and there weren't a whole lot of options, so it's a 3 for the facilities. Budget-wise, it seemed like it was a little bit more friendly.

At this point, Walnut Valley Senior Living Community would be a second choice. Juanita showed me around there, and she is amazing. It's the same thing that the other place includes, but it just didn't have high ceilings. It was beautifully redone, and the paint is a gray color, so it is very uplifting. Juanita is extremely knowledgeable, too. They supply the microwave and the refrigerator with a little freezer, and that was about it that I saw. I was not able to try the food. I saw the food, I smelled the food, and I saw the presentation, and I can tell that it was pretty good. The facility itself was newly remodeled. They have outdoor spaces, and they are beautiful. There were beautiful patios, and they had a courtyard. They didn't have a fountain, but it was gorgeous.

My dad needed extra care that we could no long handle. My mother went kicking & screaming as she was not ready to be in an assisted living facility. However, she found the staff very friendly, loving and compassionate. She met some wonderful friends there and within the 1st week was asked to be on the resident council. She is excited to be in a place with folks her own age and with staff that have now become her family. When we brought my dad there, he was in a wheelchair and with little strength. A few days later, he was playing the piano (hadn't played in over 5 years) and helping with the resident sing-a-long. He can now walk with a walker to the restroom, or help with his own transfers. It's a miracle!

So far everything is going really good. Everyone is really helpful and they always try to help. The food is good but it could use some improvement. The activities could also use improvement. The schedule says something but it does not always happen. It does need some adjustments. I even tell my friends about this community. It is a great place but just like anywhere else it needs some improvement. With the food maybe they can even make some Chinese food every now and then.
