Brookdale Topeka is dedicated to providing personalized care for families with a loved one living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Located in West Topeka, we are just around the corner from a variety of hotels, medical centers, restaurants, and shopping centers. Our highly trained staff prides itself on its ability to provide specialized care to seniors or your loved ones and you can rest easy knowing that our staff is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency.
Our patient-tailored care plans are designed to maintain our residents’ quality of life and includes healthcare services and dementia-friendly life enrichment activities. In addition to medication and wellness management, seniors will participate in our daily path of engagement, which involve research-based activities. Our staff members engage with residents on a daily basis in meaningful ways and provide endless opportunities for hobbies, creative pursuits, and daily moments of joy.
Our community has the look and feel of a comfortable home. Each resident’s apartment is outfitted with safety features and allows them to live amongst a community of peers and nurturing staff members. Our floor plan options feature a bedroom, bathroom, and ample storage space, ready to be decorated with pictures, keepsakes, and mementos. Residents will also enjoy interacting with our community in cozy shared spaces like a fireside living room, library, or screened lanai.
Our community is secured via a 24-hour security system with monitored entrances and exits. Additional amenities include a concierge service, postal services, walking pathways, Wi-Fi access, a snack shop, courtyard and garden. And the air throughout our community is run through an ionization purification system to protect against viral infections. Events include everything from popcorn socials to prayer and devotional services, gentle fitness classes, and musical sessions. We have additional memory care features like dementia-friendly dining menus, color-coding throughout the community, and personalized apartment doors with a shadow box for easier recognition for our residents.

The care my mom has received from staff at Brookdale has helped to ease our family's burden of placing our mother in a facility. The staff (nursing, activities, administrative, and custodian/maintenance) are caring and patient. The house physician and nursing staff have done a great job modifying medications to decrease my mom's suffering and improve her behavior. The nursing and activities staff are excellent and spend time talking to and engaging the residents in activities they enjoy. I highly recommend Brookdale.

Brookdale Topeka was my favorite for memory care and dementia out of all the places I visited. They focus on dementia and Alzheimer's only. You have to have a diagnosis with them, so that's why we can't use them right now. We don't have an actual diagnosis of dementia. I like them best on how they handle that and so forth. I like that it was small, and they are able to focus on the residents there (more than a larger facility). They showed us the model rooms. One room wasn't a model, but was a room they had available. It was a little bigger. For what I was looking for, it felt tight. However, for one individual person, it would be a good setup. We were looking at their double-room occupancy for my parents. If they had a shared room at a lower cost, that would be a good option. They try not to keep the residents in their rooms so much, in order to keep them active throughout the day. They have activities throughout the day. They keep them out as much as they can. The person who gave the tour was really good. He was knowledgeable. He was empathetic to my situation and tried to help where he could. They only cook at a certain time frame. They have family-style meals. It is one meal that they serve. If you don't like what they're serving, they have an option so they will eat. I like how the facility was set up. They have a courtyard and some of the rooms are facing it.

My dad passed away from cancer and he was very protective over my mom and sometimes he would get agitated, but [name removed] handled it with such grace and made the transition so good, it was so easy. They are very good about educating families about the process and what is going on and encouraging families to participate and stay engage. Everything is set up specifically for those with memory care problems. They are patient and willing to answer any question at anytime They really try to get her to engage in the activities and try to include her as much as they can. They have been amazing with communication and let you know what to expect. They also let you personalize their rooms so it does not feel sterile. When you walk into the facility, you truly feel like you are at home. I would absolutely recommend them without a doubt. I have that peace of mind since moving her here and I know I do not have to worry about her.

I was there in person a lot, but they also reached out through email and text. The community is all on one floor and it's both safe & locked. Activities include a variety of different things like cards, movies, crafts, baking, and a little bit of everything. I would recommend Brookdale Topeka to others.
