I was greeted when I entered Brookdale Scotts Valley and immediately, someone was walking with me and he was showing me everything that they've got. We were walking through mid-morning, and there were certain activities going on in the activity rooms and I got to see the bedrooms. I stayed there and had lunch in the dining room area. It was a very pleasant walk around and very friendly. I enjoyed it. It looked like a nice place. They had apartments where if you had your own furniture, you could move your own furniture in. They had some that had bathrooms and bathtubs and all, and some that didn't. I think the toilet was always there, but some had more of a full bathroom. Some were 1-bedroom apartments and some were more of a studio. Some had nice living rooms and some had kitchens. Some had the stove and the refrigerator. There were pianos in different places where people could play the piano. They had TV rooms and rooms that had a stage where you could perform. They had nice outside areas, and it was all nicely gardened.

We saw 1-bedroom and studio apartments, and the layouts were fine. They had a game room, a movie room, an exercise area, 2 dining rooms, and a private dining room that could be used for family. We saw the residents watching a movie while we were there. It was a good place.

I went to Brookdale Scotts Valley. The place itself, the condition of the building themselves, and the structures themselves, are seriously outdated. They need an upgrade. For the same expense. It just doesn't make sense. The staff is great. It wasn't as polished. It was worn, old, and just not as clean as the other place. There was a very different atmosphere and it was disappointing because that was the one where I wanted to have my mom. I live just down the street and I really wanted that one to work and it was just, the rooms were incredibly outdated. They had wall heaters from the seventies. The person that I was talking to that I liked there, she was terminated and corporate was there to fill in her spot. And I did not like that person as much. The conversation was more sterile, so it was not on the same level.

Brookdale Scotts Valley was a terrific place. It was very nicely maintained. The rooms were quite large. The facility was quite large, too. It's for somebody who can largely get around. They expect you to go to the dining room for food. You are responsible for your own clothing. They do linens, but you have a washing machine for your clothes. The staff who gave us the tour was nice. We got introduced to the chef. I think he was trying to do cordon bleu-style food, and the food looked terrific. The guy was taking food seriously and the description of what they served was like a nice restaurant.

I have looked at Brookdale Scotts Valley. It was a very enjoyable tour. The facility was nice, bright, and well-maintained. The staff member was very friendly. It just didn't fit my mom's. However, it was something that my husband and I might be looking into a little bit in the future. The place was very nice, and I liked what I saw there. It was a very positive experience. They had a lot of nice socializing spots. They had a library that was nice and filled with lots of interesting books. The rooms looked nice and clean. I didn't sit in on any of the activities. I looked at their activity board and it was like lots of things happening, so it looked like there were activities regularly. The residents were encouraged to participate. The rooms were spacious. It seemed like it was pretty well maintained. I liked the setup. It doesn't look like a very large facility from the outside, but the design of it was kind of a horseshoe, so you could get around a lot of the area without going outside. I thought it was well set up, and the design of it was well done.

Nice looking facility, food pretty good, love that pets are allowed. At first things were great. As health declined things not so good. Small dinning room closed too far of a walk to big dinning hall. He started missing meals. No one really checked on him enough. They would peek in and see he was sleeping so choose to let him sleep. Someone was supposed to make contact if 2 meals missed. Nope. Person who visited most was not allowed in any longer due to vacine status. He layer in urine for 3 days before Someone realized he needed medical attention. 911 called. If you are not going to allow family or friends to visit even though medical reason for being unvacinated, for God sake make sure someone is checking. Once he woke to take meds and it was unnoticed he was soaked in urine gave meds and walked out. Wow really. Nursing staff short staffed, duties required by licenced nurse was being passed down to med tech or at least the ones who didn't refuse to jeopardize their job. Didn't seem staff were team players. Covid-19 put stop to activities
