My husband has moved into Brookdale Inver Grove Heights. It's a very homey place. It's a smaller facility and I just feel more comfortable there. My husband is getting a lot of care. He has a studio room. There's a bathroom. It's a little smaller because it's a studio, but it is very nice and it is right off the dining room, so we like that. It is close to the people and the living room. The food is excellent. They have a chef there and everything is from scratch. It is very, very good. The place is very clean and neat. The staff are very warm and very kind. They just seem nice. It is very good. They all seem very caring and interested in helping. In terms of activities, they have a lot of things going on.

There's no nurse on staff (all the time) to answer questions regarding prescriptions, like what is my loved one taking, etc.. The doctor is usually not there either, I don't know when the doctor comes in. I would describe their communication as poor because I never hear from them. When I ask questions they never get back to me. When I can find them, I have to keep pressuring them and asking the same questions. I haven't had the time to call them, but it would be nice if they were there. Brookdale needs additional staff and a nurse on duty during the day. I would also like to receive feedback from the nurse and more thorough explanations of what she reports back to me.

They have 2 buildings and they only have 2 people on staff for both buildings over night, so they are severely understaffed. They don't try to incorporate activities for those who are less able. Overall we have been very disappointed in our experience and I would not recommend them to others.

My cousin moved into Brookdale Inver Grove Heights. It's a very nice place. It's very small. I think they only have ten residents right now. It seems like the staff is not up to full capacity. Everybody's short-staffed right now. She doesn't like some of the staff because they're rough. Not rough with her, but blunt with her. She needs a lot of coddling. She's a very angry person, and she doesn't like anything. You kind of got to talk her through things, and I don't think they have the time to do that so she doesn't like some of them. Some of them are good with her. She doesn't like the food there. I'm sure the food is just fine, but it's just her taste that she doesn't like it. The rooms are small. They have a beauty shop and the kitchen/cafeteria area is right in the middle, so it's very accessible to all the rooms. It's very light and bright there. They have a person that comes around and does their nails for them. She doesn't go out of her room. So it's just hard to say what she does. I would like to see a weekly menu given to the residents so that they know what each meal is going to be. They have bingo, entertainment, and dogs that come to visit. They have all kinds of things, but she doesn't do any of them.

The only issue has been with my loved one, who has been uncooperative the whole time. If anything, Brookdale staff were almost too nice when she seems to benefit from more firm suggestions. But it's getting better, on both sides. And overall Brookdale has been pretty good. I would recommend them to other people.
