I went to Brookdale Florence. They didn't know I was coming which I thought was strange. So whoever I talked to never showed up. I waited almost half an hour before I think somebody else came and said, we didn't know you were coming. I don't even know who she was. She took me on a quick tour, but it wasn't something she usually did. It just looked to me very unorganized, very disorganized. I was just shown the common area. I met one woman, and I'm not even sure what her position was, but she seemed nice enough, she was apologetic. It just seems a little older facility seems a little smaller. I knew really by the time I walked out, I knew it was not where I was going to bring my mother.

Brookdale Florence was fabulous. They were terrific there. It looked very appealing to me, the people were watching a movie, and other people were waiting to go to a cooking class. The residents looked happy and then the people that greeted us were very, very friendly. It felt like a good place. The rooms were fine. I think we saw one private room and one shared room. So it was to a shared room with two bedrooms with a bathroom that the people would share, but the whole place was very clean and it was very nice. The woman that showed us around her name was Wendy, and she was marvelous, just a delightful human being and so compassionate and kind and just lovely. She just really made me feel a whole lot better. She was a ten.

My father moved into Brookdale Florence, and it worked out perfectly. The recommendation was fantastic. The staff is very caring and helpful. The food is what made my father decide to go there. They have several professional chefs. My father has a tendency to be a little picky, and he has loved everything. It's very homey looking. They have activities. He, unfortunately, has not chosen to participate in most of them yet. We're hoping in time he will do so. Apparently somebody brought in a dog for like pet therapy and the whole tone of his voice changed. It made him so happy that he got to fool around with this dog. It's only been a short period of time, but it seems like the activities director has a lot of good things going on for them. I have nothing but praise about that place. My brothers are handling the finances, and it is pretty reasonable. I think they were actually happy about what the rate was because we got a special. I think that it was what they expected to pay, possibly maybe a little less for now.

My mother is a resident of Brookdale Florence. That's more of assisted living facility, not really a long-term care. We're hoping she doesn't have to go to long-term care, but if she does she may have to go somewhere else. She needs help because she broke her hip. She was recovering from hip surgery. She needs more care due to a break in her hip. She needs like help getting out of bed, going to toilet, she's not walking, so she needs help getting her out of bed, getting dressed, and getting a shower. They're not set up for a long-term care, which she may need. We don't know if she may need long-term care yet or not, but they don't really have adequate staff on the night shift, so they have like one med tech and one aid on the overnight shift. So that's what we're concerned with. The price is a little bit too much worth. It's a good living atmosphere, it's a nice facility, it's adequate. I'm not sure if it could meet her needs in the future 'cause of her health declining; breaking her hip and having problems.

My dad was in Brookdale Florence for around five months. My dad was in assisted living, but his memory is not good. The staff was fine, I had no problems with them, and they pretty much seemed like family. It's pretty clean in there, the food was really good, they made the meals, and wait on the residents. They had events, the families were invited, like Valentine's Day, and they had a dinner. That was nice.
