My 1 year review of Brookdale Senior Living, Des Plaines IL. 6/17/2024 My initial review and the 7 month update remain quite accurate. (see Brookdale Des Plaines Facebook page) No glaring issue(s) have altered my recommendation that you and/ or your loved ones would be VERY, VERY happy and SAFE here. The management team remains almost the same; a new Activity Director has come aboard. The rest continue to keep all the staff professionally involved and efficient. AND the entire facility (apartments included) continues to be spotless, and I mean CLEAN, CLEAN. CLEAN. THANKS to a superb run housekeeping team!! Physical Therapy, the indoor pool, exercise room, beauty salon, Library…. all are well maintained and actively used by residents. The “Back Porch” snack area is a delightful area to grab a quick bite or snack. The parking garage is undergoing some needed renovations. The outside grounds are well decorated and maintained. They continue the monthly ALL Resident meetings highlighting the employee “hero” of the month and open discussion. Kitchen tours and weekly menu chats keep the dining varied, healthy and really quite good. Once more, I repeat, I am an “independent” resident so cannot speak about Assisted Living but I do have friends here who are AL, they say the same things I do!!! Brook dales “At Home” program offers an “ala carte menu” of assisted services that one can use as needed. The Health and Wellness Direction issues information packet updates on a regular basis to keep ALL residents aware of health services available. I have NO relationship w/Brook dale other than being a resident. If you or your loved one seeks Senior Living accommodations please feel free to contact Brook dale Des Plaines IL. The # one reason for my opinion of continued satisfaction is that the management AND staff continue to administer their responsibilities at the highest level, on a 24/7/365 basis! Things that stand out after 7 months is the attitude / dedication of the entire staff, food, house-keeping, maintenance, At-home services, activities, even busing, GREAT people doing GREAT jobs with terrific attitudes, smiles on their faces. Making certain the residents get all the assistance that they need. House-keeping of this 10 story building is relentless…and appreciated!!! Note, I have not mentioned Medical/nursing care because I am not in Assisted Living, so I do not have much contact with those services. However, I do use the on-site Physical Therapy service which has proved to be exceptional. During the 7 months I have met so many more residents…… at music presentations, various activities and during dining. AGAIN, long term residents and newbies like myself all make the same positive comments. Weekly “open” resident reviews of future menus by the TERRIFIC and creative kitchen staff keeps new creations being offered on a regular basis. Simply cannot say enough about the efforts of the entire Chef’s team. Monthly All Resident “open” meetings provide the proper forum for residents and management leaders to air our needs and wants. Mix and Mingle sessions allow residents to gather together in friendly smaller groups. Lobby Holiday decorations almost rival Rockefeller Center and celebrate all religions. Hats off to the local businesses and the city of Des Plaines for the beautiful decorations in the surrounding area. Friends who come to visit us are delighted at the total beautiful community spirit!!! Finally, I have NO association with Brookdale,,,,PERIOD!!! My mother, now 93, moved to Brookdale Des Plaines Independent Living in 2011. She told her five children this move was one of the best decisions of her life, and continuously raved about the management staff and employees, the food, and the planned activities. Due to failing health, she moved to Assisted Living (AL) in 2019 and started paying for help with some of her “Activities of Daily Living”, a substantial subset of assistance you normally receive as a resident of a Nursing Home. The AL department has its own manager and employees who are extremely caring and dedicated people. She is offered the option to have all her meals delivered to her room. They clean her room, and do her laundry individually (unlike many nursing homes that combine different residents laundry in the same load) once a week on the agreed-upon day. And they regularly check in on her even during the night to make sure she’s OK. She constantly tells us that she loves Brookdale and never wants to have to leave. Us kids have peace of mind that she’s safe and receiving excellent care.

Thank you for reading, and Happy New Year !!! 1/4/2024 Brookdale Des Plaines, IL Quick review, after 7 weeks of residency. 83 yr old senior male here. Scheduled for major surgery earlier this yr, unknown if I would need Independent or Assisted level facility. Lived alone in a 2100 sq.ft 3 story townhouse and needed to change my living situation big time. Visited 5 different Senior Living facilities in Jan.-Feb 2023. Brookdale Des Plaines was 1 of the 5. Sister in law came along to provide a feminine slant on things! We took our time w/ scheduled visits, took notes (and pic’s in some cases), I ended up choosing Brookdale Des Plaines for multiple reasons. I am over the top satisfied…..6 hour surgery (3/10) went very well, then 3 wks at Shirley Ryan Agility, sold a Townhouse and moved in to Brookdale 6/1 as planned. The facilty itself, the management and the staff…..the excellent food service, all the activities and amenities....each one and all combined deliver "above expectations" …in depth!!! Residents here truly love this place and the staff visibly goes out of their way to assist ALL the residents....... repeat that ALL the residents!!! In this environment, I believe that requires strong and demonstrative "top down'' influences from management. You can see it, feel it, smell it and know it happens here. One example, the head of housekeeping has been here 28 years (I think I have that correct).....and the entire place is close to spotless!!! That takes a total TEAM effort………..DAILY (it is a 10 story building)!!! Actually, all this is a bit of a surprise to me. I had previously visited a few friends in similar facilities with quite different impressions. For me it has been a dramatic change.....my most common thought these past 2 months....adapt and adjust. I didn''t just downsize from 2150 sq. ft. to +500........I totally changed my environment along with way of life I am MORE than satisfied with the outcome. THANKS to Brookdale Des Plaines, it’s management, staff and residents!!!
Read moreWe toured Brookdale Des Plaines for my mom. I love the facility. It's very modern and very clean. It looks beautiful. I just didn't get that same warm and fuzzy feeling there that I felt in the other community.
