Mom is in Brookdale Cary. I think their staff or their caregivers probably need more training. I just get the impression that they're not caring. Some of them are, some of them aren't. The rooms are so-so. I mean, she tries to come in and clean. You end up with mixed-up clothes, clothes getting lost, things like that. Apparently, the food must be pretty good. Before my mother was put on a pureed diet, the food looked good. They have just hired a new, I guess you call her a program coordinator, who is doing some exercises and some other activities for those who can go out into what's called their town square, and some other activities at the table for those who can.

It has changed since the beginning. The staffing has been better since COVID. The staff is really good. My mother does not complain about the food, she seems to eat to everything. They did not have anyone over activities for a while but they just hired a new director, so now they have a full time person, and plan to get a part time person. Prior to getting a new director, mom enjoyed Bingo, and they offered exercise every morning, and they have a bowling game. I like the facility because it is only dementia patients. Mom gets great care. If a loved one has dementia, go to a facilty that only deals with that. A lot do not have the training. Someone who knows what a dementia patient is very important, and where staff is focused only on dementia. Once per month, they have family educational night, in which the former caregivers can come in and you can talk about what loved ones are going through.

The nurse was present for two nights but on the third night, a decision was made by Brookdale staff to not provide a night nurse for the evening, my mother in law was found dead in her room early the next morning.

My mom has been a resident of Brookdale Cary for over a year now. The staff is so kind, positive and caring. Some of the staff have been there for quite a number of years, which makes the consistency for the residents (and families) so nice. The fitness classes and cooking classes that are offered are wonderful and appropriate for the residents. Mom's room is spacious and comfortable. She enjoys the food at Brookdale as well.
