My dad was in Bickford of Marshalltown, and it's a great community. It's really, really nice. It's small, so it's cozy and homey. I think they keep their memory care people in their rooms so they don't get like a separate wing. So they have a lot more nursing staff, and a lot more people that are kind of just transitioning in their lives. They could keep them just staying in their room, and just transition them as their needs change, so they don't like to move them to a separate wing or anything. So that's kind of nice. I just had to move my dad from Marshalltown to Cedar Rapids because that's where I live. Bickford was an option, but the price was substantial when he didn't need a tremendous amount of care. But my dad loved the food there. The food was good, he loved it there. The tenure is really good. The people have been there for like eight, ten, 15 years, which I think is really important, very, very important. If my dad would maybe need more assistance, I would consider going back to Bickford just because they really have a good, solid staff there. So he's in a smaller room, and it was fine. It was adequate. They did transport my dad to a doctors' appointment, and transfer him from the nursing home to Bickford, which was nice, something that I then didn't have to run over and do because I was living in a different town.

Our dad is currently at Bickford of Marshalltown. The place is close, and I already know two other people there. It is really a nice place. The experience has been great so far. It would be better if COVID was not around. They are all great and have all been wonderful so far. All their food is made from scratch every day; not stuff you get in other nursing homes which is just mush. His room is like a little apartment and we have all his things from home, so it is like his own little apartment. They have activities, but right now he just got out of surgery, so he is just laying low and hanging out in his room. It is nice and is just all on one level and just goes to a big square. He has dementia and he is always roaming, and so he can always find his way back. It is really expensive, but so all is every place. I checked other places too, and it's all the same price, but he gets more for his money there than he would get in another nursing home.
