Bayshire Torrey Pines

Very good services for safe assisted living, with perks not always available elsewhere, for seniors who are ambulatory. We picked this community, because of the proximity to home + 7/24 caregiver & nurse support.

My husband was at Torrey Pines Assisted & Senior Living. My first impression of it was very good. The upkeep was nice. The salespeople were very nice. They took me around, and the grounds were very nice. They allow dogs, too. They had a grassy area and that was very well kept. Basically, it's very clean and very nice. The nurses were very, very nice. They were short staffed though. I hired somebody else from an agency that cared for my husband. I wanted my husband to have a one-on-one with the caregiver, so that he was getting the care. For activities they had bingo, music, lectures, exercises (even wheelchair exercises), storytelling, and historical lectures. When we were there they had mariachis and things. They had activities planned. They had a new cook, so I was very optimistic about the food. The meal or two that my husband had when he went to the dining room was not too bad, and it was edible. But the food was horrible because when it was delivered to your room. It was cold. The nurses were wonderful, but short-staffed. There were three people at the desk, and one of them had no sentiment, no sensitivity, just rude. I was just there the other day, and I stood there, and she was reading this magazine, so she knew somebody was there, but not once did she look up. Not once. Not good. However, the other staff went out of their way. So the nursing was great, but the food was terrible. I think I was a little misled. I saw the room that my husband was going to get, but at the last minute it was like we had switched to a parking lot room. I was like, "No, you showed me this one with the fountain, and that's the one I told my husband he was getting, OK?" It was almost like a bait-and-switch. I was a little disappointed. I was told about transportation and found out that they only transfer people on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. They mislead you, and it's a lot of money.
