I spent exactly 7 miserable weeks at this Senior Residence before the pandemic. It was a Private Business interested in profit, not people. It was allegedly Kosher at the time, yet I ordered out for healthy, edible meals. I lost over $8,000+ and my dignity. I was an intelligent, independent woman. I was treated by the staff, especially at the front desk, as a moron and liar. Every day. Independent people should avoid high-rise senior buildings. Atria was fortunate that I chose not to sue the owner for a total refund plus damages.

I am relatively content and comfortable at Atria. For my particular needs, Atria has often been a blessing. Relatively, I am a higher functioning resident here. Of note, I am not here for memory issues but I know many are. (I do at times forget what I had for breakfast two days ago and am told this is normal.😌 This happened in my 20''s too.) Of note, we had very good supervision during the pandemic and CDC guidelines seemed to be followed. We have a new director who is trying to make improvements in the community. Our asst director is too. I love my cozy and quiet one-bedroom apt. There is a quaint town nearby in walking distance with many restaurants, delis, banks, etc. We have the the NY Botanical Gardens and Cloisters (part of the MET), nearby. They schedule optional trips for the residents. There are podiatrists, OT/PT therapists, and a PCP who visit the Atria. It is optional to see them. There are other visiting providers (optional). I was very fond of my OT therapist who I saw several years twice per week throughout the pandemic. I know he was fond of me too and he told me I made great progress as my reports show. We have an Engage Life Dept. The directors of engage life are creative and organize many activities. I appreciate that I am usually given my freedom as I tend to be on the shy side and tire easily. A community letter and notice of events are available each day. We also get a monthly calender of activities. The activities are optional but socialization is encouraged. I adore that there is a small movie theatre on the premises with cushioned seats and look forward to attending more flicks. I saw some great movies here, ex. "Greenbook", "Cinema Paradiso" (my fav and which I recommended), "La Vie et Rose", etc. They just showed The Oscars in the movie theatre! The activities are lovely and many to choose from. I loved the lectures especially music and art appreciation that continue and I plan to attend them again. I''m a somewhat private person so during lockdowns 😔 I enjoyed the comfort of my lovely junior one bedroom apt. and got a lot of work done. My housekeeper of a few years has been quite trustworthy. As you would find in most communities/facilities, over the years, several of the staff members have been defensive, impatient, unfriendly and/or abrupt but this is to be expected. A bunch are kind. We have two resident relations directors who handle a variey of issues including clinical as they arise. I''ve had some lovely meals. The food has ranged from adequate to excellent. Our new chef seems to be a very good cook. I''m finding that the meals are getting more generous/healthier particulary since the new dining director and new Atria director came on board. I often get meal deliveries ($10 fee for delivery/$5 fee for pickup) and our dining manager tries to include healthy foods that I really like. Thank you for that! They always have sugar-free desserts. The Roasted Lamb with Rosemary Potatoes/Veggies dish was particularly good as was the Chicken Milanaise! I appreciate that they carry baby spinich and fancy goodies for the salads, ex., cranberries/sliced almonds. Of note, the dining room is very pretty. There is a lovely cafe in the lobby open until 3pm with snacks/beverages for no charge. I wish they could extend the hours! Medication Management is offered where staff manage prescriptions, obtain refills, and administer the medications. This care costs extra. Med. techs come to the apts with the medications AM and PM which is a nice service. Every 6 months assessments are written/reviewed here and I am asked to read and sign them. Often I am fine with what they say and agree with them! Thank You! There is 24-hour concierge service and from what I see, the security is good. Maintenance is good and when I''ve have had an issue, I usually get a prompt response. Like any community there is room for improvement in a few areas. Peace and quiet juxtaposed against a Bronx parkway, this city gal (with a little bit country) is smiling! 😊🙏

I like that Atria Riverdale was immaculate. It was high end as far as comfort, their rooms, and the overall look and feel of the community. In terms of one-to-one service for each member that was there, and what they would provide as far as activities, ongoing exercises, rehab, and other activities for memory care, it was very evident. I would have loved to be able to have my mom there, but the cost was out of reach since they were private care programs. They wouldn't accept my mother's insurance for coverage of that care. They showed me a common area and a restaurant. They also had what looked like a really good rehab and exercise facility. There were comfortable seatings for the common areas, a very at home living common area. Just very high end for people to definitely feel as if they were in their own home setting (a very comfortable setting). The staff who assisted me was extremely down to earth. She really talked to me and shared both her personal experience and was very empathetic and an extremely good listener when it came to hearing what was happening with my own mother. She wanted to help me as best as she could. The place definitely appeared very clean, very orderly, and secure. They have a security system in place with the elevators, so it would be very difficult for someone to just walk out. My only downside was their parking. They had a garage, but other than that, to be able to find parking in the area would be extremely difficult. That was the only drawback, but everything else was very top/high-end. From what I saw, everything was very clean too.

My overall rating for Atria Riverdale since i have moved in will be a 4. I would like to highlight Merrill Martin and give her 5 stars for support and hospitality. I would also like to highlight Shenika Martin-Smith, giving her 5 stars as well for her constant support, her ability to make me feel comfortable and her kindness. I would like to hightlight Cherchill who was here during my time of need! Also, Valarie Morales for her comfort and her energy, and especially Ed and Robert who have helped with my meals. Kimberly Bennet the housekeeping director is always responsive and she takes walks with me motivating me while I exercise. They all make me feel like I am apart of a family.

I’ll make a long story very short. My mother in the early stages of dementia moved here. The food was terrible. We learned later that it’s because they take the initiative to make sure everyone’s eating kosher. My mother is not kosher. The food is terrible. As her dementia progressed she needed more and more outside health. At my cost. When we finally made the choice to move my mother to another floor, memory, care floor, that’s when her health took a sharp decline. While I was still providing nearly 24/7 outside care at my own cost , she steadily deteriorated. Why? Well, my mother, a slow eater was not allowed to have any help eating and when they were ready to clean up they cleaned up. Which means she ate a quarter of each of three meals a day. The idiot doctor put her on fiber supplements that had her in a new constant state of diarrhea. By the time we moved her to a new facility, she was so physically and mentally depleted her passing came shortly thereafter. Just don’t-

I moved my 83 year old mother all the way from Los Angeles (where she had been living in her own apartment in Brentwood for over a decade) and was so worried about whether she'd be happy at Atria Riverdale -- in all respects it's a big life change... She is totally happy. She loves her 1 bedroom apartment there, it's clean and well appointed and homey; she loves all the activities and the staff is excellent. She has everything she needs.. I had been researching so many independent living properties and my mom was so grateful that I helped her find the best one for her. On logistics, it's perfect - close to the city, close to Westchester, and easy to get to for me either driving or by train. Thank you!!
