Atria Cypresswood: Premier Senior Living in Houston
The first thing you’ll notice about Atria Cypresswood, a senior living community nestled in the leafy suburbs north of Houston, TX, is the southern mansion-style architecture with grand white columns and huge porches. Each day presents a new opportunity for fun, personal growth and meaningful relationships. Start the day with stimulating conversation over a scratch-made breakfast. Take a trip with friends to see the enchanting artwork at the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts. Grab a beer and join a poker tournament in the game room. Find a partner and mambo the afternoon away. Or, take a break with a good book in the sunroom.
Food is also a big part of the community glue here. Residents gather for three meals a day in the main dining room, where the chefs (who hail from Le Cordon Bleu and Culinary Institute of America) create mouth-watering appetizers, entrees and desserts from scratch. They mix up old country-style favorites with exotic treats like Spanish tapas and Indian curry and they even lead culinary classes so residents can try their hand at new dishes. Older adults with nutritional restrictions always find something tasty, with vegetarian, low-sodium and no-sugar options.
Levels of Care for Every Senior at Atria Cypresswood
Choose from three levels of care at Atria Cypresswood: independent living, assisted living and memory care. Independent living means dedicated staff takes care of life’s little chores — like cleaning, cooking and driving — and leaves residents to pursue their interests and meet new friends. Assisted living does the same thing but offers extra help for seniors who need assistance with bathing, continence, dressing and getting around. Independent and assisted living residents can select from affordable studios and deluxe studios (with kitchenettes) up to 615 square feet. Every floor plan includes utilities, housekeeping, maintenance and emergency alert systems.
For residents dealing with the challenges of dementia, Atria Cypresswood has Life Guidance Memory Care, a program that provides a secure, structured, engaging environment in which to flourish. Memory care seniors receive all the benefits of assisted living but with extra assistance with physical exercise, social connection and cognitive issues. For instance, the Legato program uses musical study and cues to jog memory, create familiar routines and reduce stress.

I would have preferred my father to go to the Novellus Cypresswood. The rooms were a little bit smaller, but I liked that place. It was a combo assisted and active living. Everybody is together there. My father felt like there were too many assisted living. The people were a lot worse off than my dad there, that's why we didn't pick that place. The staff was very nice. They had a salon. I liked it because it was close to Collins Park, and my dad worked at Collins Park. He can go out the back door and he can ride his bike, and it looks safer to get there. It was very clean. They provided transportation.

My mom will be moving into Novellus Cypresswood. We like the atmosphere. Their facility is nice. They have nice dining areas, places for the residents to do crafts, and outside areas. They have a big porch on the second floor that's nice for them to sit on, and it backs up to a park. I liked that everyone on the staff was very friendly and nice. They greeted me and were very welcoming. I saw residents that were socializing with one another and eating together. I saw some of them doing crafts together, and some sitting on the porch. It just seemed like a good atmosphere. They seemed to keep the residents busy. I know they take them on outings, take them to church, and that kind of thing. Those are the things that I was looking for more than necessarily amenities. I was looking for the atmosphere and the socialization. I wanted to see that residents don't just stay in their rooms because that's what we want for my mom. The refrigerator and microwave are included, no matter which room you choose. You have to furnish your own hygiene supplies and things like that. I want to bring our own furniture to make the room homier, but I don't know if they furnish it. The staff who showed me around was great. She showed me everything. After I left to tour somewhere else, I called my daughter to meet me back there because I wanted a second opinion. They weren't expecting us, and the staff was very open; she said, "Oh, yes, I'll give you the whole tour, too" without an appointment or anything. So, that was very nice of her. They gave me a box with two little cheesecakes as a gift and I ate those, but I didn't eat a meal. It was really good. We chose assisted living and we're going to start there. I saw the memory care, and the residents were busy there, too. They had them all out in their little area, and they were all doing a project. That was impressive too.

My dad was in this facility for approximately two years. He was in memory care for a year of that time. I can't speak highly enough of the staff. The care team was amazing. They always kept dad clean and kept me informed of any setbacks. They were also very compassionate and truly loved him. The activities coordinator was superior. Always keeping the seniors engaged from games, entertainment or just conversations. The chef always made great meals and would check in on a personal level with the seniors too. I really appreciate this community and how they pulled together to help take care of my dad in his time of need.

I was so impressed with this facility which is now owned by Novellus. From the day my dad moved in until his death I have been 100% satisfied. The chef always made good food and knew what my dad liked. He was also kind and checked in on him on a personal level. The activities coordinator is amazing. This is the main reason I moved my dad over. There were great activities scheduled throughout the day. The team always worked hard to get everyone engaged. From field trips to just gathering and having conversations they were great. Then the care staff was so compassionate. Not only did they take care of my dad, but they also kept me updated and they truly loved my dad. Dad was at this location for approximately two years, and I am grateful for this community and staff!
Read moreI am impressed with the food. The activities is good. The value for the money, it's higher than it should be. I picked this community because of the ambiance, location, staff, security, patient care and the communication of the staff with the residents, and loved ones
