I went to Astoria Senior Living - Tracy. I like it. I like the atmosphere. There is a lot of space, and the environment is really pleasant. When we went down the halls, the rooms were pointed out. We went into one that was being updated or renovated. Further down the hall, it was pointed out as far as the emergency doors that they're very well locked and that type of thing. We also went out onto the patio showing me a very lengthy walkway. I can tell that they are giving people in the memory care activity and that there would be a good amount of walking. The rooms were very nice. I thought the layout was very pleasant. There were common areas and little alcoves, which I thought was kind of cool because if someone wanted to be near the mix of things, but maybe sit and listen, they could go and sit in an alcove. The staff was very approachable, very courteous, and professional. I got a lot of information from him. He even checked back at a later time just to find out how my father was, and just to ensure that if we decided to go that route, he was available to meet again or even for my family to tour, so I was impressed with that.
Read moreEverything looked great from what we saw, it is definitely more for individuals with memory care issues who need a higher level of care. They did not have independent apartments, they were just rooms and most rooms were shared. They also did not allow pets. It was just not what we were looking for.

The number one reason my wife moved to Astoria Senior Living is that it's close to my son's house. Number two, she seems to be happy, the staff seems wonderful. We met a number of them and they are taking excellent care of her, so we're very happy at the moment. She hasn't been there that long, but it seems to be going very, very well. The staff is wonderful, especially the activities director. They have singalongs, painting, parties and many other things. She's comfortable. Her room is rather small, but it has a bathroom in the room whereas, in the one she was in, the bathroom was down the hall. I was paying $8300 a month here in Washington, but in Astoria, I'm paying 5 grand. It's difficult to get to see her without going through a big hassle, signing in, locked doors and so forth. So the security is excellent.

We chose Astoria Gardens because of the activities that they provided. We visited a lot of places and people were sitting in their rooms. When we visited this facility, people were in common rooms, eating meals together, doing crafts so there was much more activity. They have been great with communication, they call and text. Sometimes it is hard to get a hold of them at the front desk, but I do have the directors cell so that has been helpful. For the residents, the ease of getting around here is nice. It is a giant circle so memory care residents cannot get lost. They also have a lot of different areas outside and rooms they can go to. I would recommend. They are allowing weekly visits right now so that has been nice as well.
