I spent two weeks at Acadia. I was receiving PT for an Pulmanary Embolism. I was in PBMC for 9 days. After I was Discharged, I was sent to Acadia. I had heard mixed reviews about the place but I heard that an excellent PT program and facility so we decide to give it a try the two therapist that worked with me mostly was Tracy And Enny(sp?). These two ladies were awesome. They work me hard which I requested I did whatever they asked me to do if they asked me and I tired you wanna stop I said no because I could tell they both were driven to get me better. I can''t thank them enough. The facility They have their top-notch. The gym that I and all the other resident worked out in was big enough so we weren''t all on top of each other. I would highly recommend this place for anybody looking to get PT. I also have to give a shout out to the nurses CNA''s and LPNs they were so professional caring I didn''t get all their names but a couple of names I did get was a young kid named Brian, who was very nice helpful and just so happened his mother works there And she was just as kind I could see where Brian got His good manners from. Vera was one of the nurses on the floor helpful kind always making sure stuff is done if I have any therapy again which I hope I don''t Acadia Will be my first choice. In place it like this you always worry about the food and the food here was really not that bad. It was actually pretty good and as I recognized the nurses the CNA''s and LPNs I want to recognize the people that were hanging out the food trays, and cleaning them up, all very nice and professional are always smiling and never had an interaction with one that seemed like they hated their job. This is a long review by something I felt had to be said.

After foot surgery, I lived at Acadia for 2 weeks for rehab. Everything ideal there, physical therapy taught me exercises for healing, nurses administered meds promptly, nursing aides assisted with personal care, excellent meals delivered to my room on time, every morning and afternoon movies available on room TV, activities every afternoon such as bingo, singer playing the guitar, educational videos on the huge TV, birthday parties, pet therapy. Every morning a packet is distributed with puzzles, events ocurring and biographies of famous people born on the specific day. I highly recommend Acadia center.

My mother-in-law was placed there because the hospital couldn''t get her anywhere else. We knew of it''s reputation ahead of time and they certainly lived down to it. The front desk staff and admitting were uniformly friendly and helpful and I think most of the people there were trying to do their job to the best of their ability. They are short-staffed, perhaps not filling all the beds would help in that area. Bill, an LPN, was extraordinary as were the three physical therapists who worked with my mother-in-law. Jamie, the social worker was also very helpful. That said, we had to clean the room when we got there because the phone had some sort of brown gunk all over it and the shelving and such were all covered in dust and so forth. There were frequent waits of 20 minutes or more when my mother-in-law would activate the call button. My mother-in-law has an ostomy bag and the first episode with one of the PCTs was unsatisfactory, to say the least. It became apparent early on that really no one there was particularly trained to care for an ostomy. When my mother-in-law tried to help them, one aid, in particular, became quite irate. Overall this was a very poor facility. Trying to get proper pain management for my 83-year-old mother-in-law, who had fallen and fractured her hip became a struggle between the nurse, who was more interested in being condescending and patronizing, telling us about his years of experience and his level of training, than in actually listening to my mother-in-law and helping her. My mother-in-law got a brief period of OT and maybe 40 minutes of physical therapy a day. This is a woman who at 83 broke a hip playing badminton with her grandchildren and walked to the park and gardened everyday. She was laying around most of the time unless we took her out. You don''t expect good food when you''re in a medical facility, but the food here was abysmal and if we weren''t there at meal time the tray was just plunked on the table with no assistance offered to my mother-in-law, who was having mobility problems, to say the least. Fortunately, a bed became available at St Charles and we were able to move her there. The quality of care and the overall superiority of the physical therapy and the facilities was exponentially better. My mother-in-law gets 2 hours of physical therapy a day and an hour of occupational therapy and we shudder to think how much he would have atrophied if we had chosen to keep her in Acadia. I waited over a week to write this review because I didn''t want to review while I was so upset with Acadia and I want it to be as honest and objective as I could be. My recommendation would be to strongly advocate with the hospital social worker against having a loved one sent to Acadia. .
