Highlander Place: First-Rate Senior Care on the Columbia River
Highlander Place combines individualized care, chef-inspired meals and engaging health and wellness programs to create a community where older adults can thrive. Residents here enjoy amenities like a dedicated activities room, a full-service beauty salon/barber shop, a fireside lounge and an elegant dining room with vaulted ceilings and tableside service. There are plenty of opportunities to get outdoors, too — older adults have lively chats on the large patio, take strolls with friends on the manicured walking paths and use the raised garden beds to grow veggies. In addition, loved ones stay active here by getting involved with the daily events calendar, which includes activities like exercise classes, church services, movie nights, live entertainment and arts and crafts projects.
Kelso is a small town on the Columbia River known for its green spaces, walkability and family-oriented culture. Near the community, residents and visiting guests might enjoy the Cowlitz County Museum, the Lake Sacajawea Park Japanese Gardens, Three Rivers Mall and the Kelso Senior Center.

I couldn''t speak higher regarding this facility. My mother and Aunt are both here. They take such good care of them. The facility is clean and inviting and the staff is so friendly.
I went to Highlander Place. I liked the staff. I also liked that there's not a lot of people. I think they only have 30 to 40 residents, so it's smaller and it's more one-on-one. We did try the food. They had a luau when we were there. It was all home-cooked food and it was really good. The rooms were spacious and clean. The whole building was clean. It was updated fairly recently. The kitchen area was nice. It was like an open concept in the common areas. They have a courtyard that they can go outside. The staff was good. The facility was nice.

So, we just had everyone cooking, but they had one great chef. He was only there three days a week though. When you order something, you might get it and you might get something different. My room was very nice. They're nothing fancy, but they're nicely painted and the bathroom was a very nice big bathroom for people with lockers. I had nice little cabinets for the kitchen, as well as a refrigerator and a microwave. They have a library, an activity room, and then a nice front area with a little fireplace where you could sit.

Highlander Place was nice. It's a one-story facility, which is easy to get around in. Everybody has a view of something, nature-wise, to look at out there. She even referred me to other places because they just do self-pay there. We're looking for a place where you can transition from self-pay to Medicaid, but they don't do that. The rooms were very basic, but they're nice and big. They had nice showers, and they're nicely updated.

I would tell others that the staff here are exceptional. They are more than willing to help with any little projects or anything you might need. When I was first looking at places, the main reason I went with Highlander Place was because of how great they were with their follow-up. The room sizes here are adequate for what I need, although I have mine a bit crowded. I have been very comfortable since moving in here.
